Galileoβs handwritten notes found in ancient astronomy text
Discovery sheds new light on how famed astronomer came to lead a scientific revolution
Years before Galileo made his observations of the π and Jupiter's moons, he intensively studied the work of Claudius Ptolemy, until Ptolemy's own mathematical logic brought Galileo to "the moment when Earth was thrust from the center of the Universe". A fascinating discovery if confirmed. π π§ͺ π’

The 5 stages of the βenshittificationβ of academic publishing
Academic publishing now shows the same decline that has hit social media and online marketplaces.
The "enshittification" driven by the toxic academic culture of "publish or perish". Great science happens in great teams β research assessments must try to capture that
Europe must reform the ways in which science is evaluated. To boost innovation, it must improve research culture.
"Great science happens in great teams". True! but evaluation & recognition still done individually. Papers written equally by all authors are rare, only leader author takes a big chunk of the work. Whatever ideas this committee will come out shouldn't be more work load for scientists. π§ͺ #AcademicSky
