It's mind-blowing that I could park a giant pickup truck for free on some of the most valuable urban real-estate in the world.

So Trump and Alderman Gardiner got inside yalls heads?
Honestly, if CTA spends the NITA bill money on cops, itβll be one of the greatest fumbles of the agency. We fought like hell to get yall funding, and you waste it on cops. Pathetic. Expand service.
I swapped out my winter tire over the weekend, so of course snow is forcasted for Wednesday.
My bad y'all.
The gas industry found a goldilocks zone: Make large swaths of the population dependent on it, have the gov subsidize it so it's cheap enough that folks don't feel bad buying it, but if it's too expensive, suburbanites will vote for those who promise lower prices.
If USians payed European prices for gas, it would cripple suburbia. We need to build an βoff rampβ first.
Gas is cheap enough to enable suburban life, and suburban life depends on gas, so itβs political. Many of my suburban friends wish they werenβt car dependent, but they couldnβt afford to live near transit.
Unfortunately for many, car dependency isnβt a choice. Suburban life is subsidized, and property near transit hubs is expensive. Auto and gas execs lobbied politicans to secure their profits. And this forces folks into a debt spiral.
The Bike Lane on Milwaukee and Maplewood
The US Navy might soon be escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile my annual bike tune-up at the neighborhood bike shop is gonna cost around $80.
It's never been more important to get involved with the fight for mass transit and multi-modal infrastructure. We cannot continue to center our economy or our collective mobility on such a volatile and finite resource.

Lincoln Park is just one big ring camera.
New from us! Mayor Brandon Johnson endorsed us in 2023, now he is against our safety. The City of Chicago opposes HB2454, a bill that would make bicyclists intended users of all roads only on a disconnected network of streets rather than all streets.

I support @aldermanlaspata.bsky.social's project 100%, I just wish we already had dozens of these around the city. The fact that this is newsworthy in "the greatest city in the world" is a bit pathetic for us.
One of Chicagoβs flaws is our obsession with piloting already-proven things. We scrutinize a small data set, and council talks itself in circles before (maybe) implementing weak-ass half-measures.
My coworker just said βsultry searchβ when they meant to say βsearch resultsβ.
They had the same argument for #PlowTheSidewalks
This is Kedzie, looking southbound, just south of the Logan Boulevard. 4 lane road with multiple zebra-marked crossing and no sign. If someone wearing black is crossing at night, will @waymo.bsky.social yield?
With TJs coming and Congress Theater getting restored, demand and property values for that area of Logan are gonna rise.
We must build more housing. There are so many empty lots.
I wonder which amount is more: money spent downtown by folks with email jobs who are forced to commute for βoffice cultureβ,
Or, money spent dealing with car crashes and highway maintenance due to those commuters.
If they follow the speed limit and donβt run red lights or stop signs, could be nice? Will non-drivers be safer with these on the road? Will it yield to people crossing 4-lane roads at unsigned zebra crossings?
Just incase you needed more reasons to ride a bike in Logan Square, the traffic in this area is going to get worse.
I'm interested to know the back-end of this, how it's measured, what the efficacy is. Does someone get paid $30 to shovel one intersection?
Mamdani put out an message saying the city will pay people who show up to city garages with IDs to shovel. Heβs basically speedrunning a #PlowtheSidewalks program.
Uber bought Spot Hero. Will the resulting enshitification shift more drivers towards active transit? Or will drivers embrace the intensified hell theyβve been building since the 50s?
The city lets individuals report 311 tickets for icy sidewalks, and theoretically the associated property owners get fined. Reporting parking violations is the same concept.
Does the city enforce the plow-sidewalk ordinance?
Are folks who report icy sidewalks "quasi-vigilantes"?
How does Ald Lee feel about 311-ing your neighbors who don't plow the sidewalk? Same concept, no?
Weβre losing. A bunch of you need to sign this.
Since the tariffs were illegal, how about we just donβt file federal taxes until he **** and we call it even?
Gun violence shutting down an highway near downtown, creating a dangerous vehicle clusterfuck in the surrounding neighborhoods. Car dependency must end. We have so much work to do.
I was biking inbound last night at 5:45 on Milwaukee through insane traffic to get to the @bscactionfund.org social. The inbound Kennedy was shut down due to a shooting that had happened earlier that day, which caused traffic chaos elsewhere in the area.
