From the trenches: I have not heard back yet, but I am taking that submission to a writing conference where I won a scholarship, and I'd like to be further along. We do a Day Without and Immigrant with our food bank, and we train to guard our food bank, which has a large immigrant population.

Are we in a word of escapism now for kids and publishing? I mean, how do you handle realism and resilience in kid lit today? Should we not write about homeless, hungry kids? Or how do you do that for kids? Or not at all?
