Wow big news. And seems like an objectively good thing.
In a colloquial way, yes. They're different ways of describing distributions.
To the lay person "average" could mean either median or mean. Mode probably not so much (with some exceptions).
It's why it's helpful to define what you mean when you talk about the "average" something.
Right. Instead of spending time fighting the data, spend time dealing with how 50k doesn't get you very far in many areas. Show the cost of living data. Anything other than creating a fictional version of the world.
Yeah their reports are pretty good.
Oh goddammit Google.

I think this is probably slightly better, but directionally shows the same thing.
Multiple Jobholders as a Percent of Employed (LNS12026620) | FRED | St. Louis Fed share.google/pBXZc6Z72WDZ...
Stop personally attacking me
But to address the flawed assumption in your question, wealth distribution in the country is significantly skewed. And knowing that 50% of households earn >$x says nothing about how the bottom 50% is struggling.
I don't know how to say this without seeming like a dick, but you need to learn what average and median means. Understanding basic statistical concepts would help you out, because you seem to be struggling with simple concepts.
It'd help you have conversations without asking nonsensical questions.

Yeah I mean it is theoretically possible so I can't say they're lying. But damn is it improbable.
Per FRED data, there are about 8.3 million people that have more than one job out of 158.4m nonfarm employees.
So despite only ~5.2% of all employees working multiple jobs, 100% of all workers you know have multiple jobs?
Amazing.
You literally just proved my point which would be quite funny if it wasn't so depressing.
Try re-reading what I wrote and spend some time trying to actually understand it. Pay particular attention to the first of the two sub points.
I think what's frustrating about this particular discourse (that comes up all the time) is that some people seem to refuse to acknowledge the data. It's as if they think it's not possible to simultaneously believe a ton of people are still struggling AND acknowledge the truth of income data.
Based on historical research I've seen, it's not actually as clear cut as you'd think.
Average working hours in the 13th century was 1620, the. 1440 in the 14th, but up to 2300 in the middle ages. In 1850 it was 3150-3650. But then by 1988 it was down to 1949.
It's kind of a mixed bag.
I feel like we have to include more than just that figure. "Could only find part time work" and "child care problems" should probably also roll into that, at a minimum.
Still wouldn't skew the median income that far, though.
Well the average person does work full time. Only 11.4% of the core workforce is part time. It's difficult to find data on what percentage of that is voluntary vs involuntary.
in case you've never seen it, this is Roger Ebert on The Mummy
Everything about this is correct.
This is about USAID by the way.
And the people dying are the hundreds of thousands of children who have died of malnutrition and preventable diseases directly as a result of USAID cuts by Trump and Musk
Skeet from @relooreloo.bsky.social - "I'm sorry for the deaths, but count dismantling US hegemony and soft power squarely as a boon to humankind. So fair - as a useful idiot, Trump IS unlike Biden in that he's less competent at doing evil, which is better."
Screenshot for posterity
"Lots of people died but that's good, actually" is the kind of brainworms these weirdos have.
At least it's an American company?
Yikes on bikes
Just got a spam text that was an alleged notice of parking violating and hearing notice.
lmao
Apparently Philly is now doing formal court notices by text. Very realistic.
Holy shit.
if you go up to an author and say this I think they have every right to call you a stupid loser to your face.
Well I managed to luck out and find a store that had ONE pair left. Unfortunately it was a woman's set. But it fit Lisa, so she got nice boots out of it!
Devastated to discover my favorite hiking boot brand, Vasque, no longer exists. I have a 20 year old set of boots that's still in great shape and was looking for another.
