Trump had a track record as president. All any voter had to do in 2024 was consider at it. Many ignored it, or decided it was acceptable. At some point, American voters need to take responsibility for their decisions. It is not ok to be a dumbass.

The reporting doesn’t make that clear. It does make clear that Hegseth wanted to show off what he knew. The article was careful to explain that cell phones aren’t used to communicate info this sensitive—there are other secure systems in place. Which means he was seeking validation from the chat.
