It's not yet public. We're thinking about what it means to release it, and how to frame its release. For example, if we release it, does it mean we will support its development, and how to communicate the degree of support we will provide, if so?

If your application is API first, with careful adherence to semantics behind the scenes, it's pre-adapted to facilitate building fun things.
AI-assisted coding + #TaxonWorks #opensource is bonkers fun. twig is TaxonPages in the terminal.
Thanks Geoff for this experiment, all done in a weekend.

PhyKIT code coverage is back to 90%+. Unit and integration tests are *key* for software stability
Or if there might be work done, what happens if itβs not executed where the data originated? How do you plan for obsolescence? Maybe weβll see some answers in BDJ. Sneak peek at a call for a special issue to be announced soon where manuscripts are welcome bdj.pensoft.net/topical_coll...

A post about pirate book archives, their inevitable demises, and continuity and complexity of catalogues as new sites emerge. (As well as musings on the challenge of resourcing and financing such illegal [in many jurisdictions] operations at the scale that is needed.)

TAXACOM - The long goodbye lists.ku.edu/pipermail/ta... π’
Tomorrow! I'll be moderating the first session of #Hymathon2025 with a keynote presentation by @amelialindsey.bsky.social and lots of interesting research on ants, bees, sawflies, and wasps!
Lurking at #Hymathon2025. It's an amazing concept- a 24hr virtual conference engaging researchers on the bees, wasps, and ants, across the globe and across timezones.
Ideas already flowing for activites we might facilitate in 2026, stay tuned.

Screenshot of a 3 column interface visualizing data attributes on the TaxonName model. The user has click a heat-map cell in the middle to get details on the right, comparing "Mf" to "MF".
In TaxonWorks you can extend many models with your own attributes- new buckets to put your stuff in. We sometimes use these buckets as a record of original values when we migrate in data.
Just what do we put in those buckets? A viz tool to explore is in testing.

We're at #EntSoc25 and ECN too. We'll have lots of time to chat, so find Matt, Debbie, Dmitry and friends.

While everyone is having fun @ #LivingData2025 we rolled out our AnatomicalPart model for testing. OWL anatomy ontology integration, multiple origins, source of extracts and sequences, and other parts. One of the last pillars of TaxonWorks 1.0.
Thanks Tom for implementing this coolness.

Welcome Miridae (and Reduviidae) to TaxonWorks! Comprehensive plant (and assassin) bug nomenclature with >44k names, distribution and host records are now imported. Christiane Weirauch, R. Toby Schuh and
Michael Schwartz lead the evolution of this decades long effort on these important #insects.
A zoomed out view of a Sankey plot illustrating how taxon name authors of the stonefly family Perlidae collaborate together.
#Taxonomy is *very* collaborative, this is authorship of the stonefly family Perlidae. The Sankey viz illustrates the connection between authors as defined by both being involved in the authorship of a TaxonName. Dynamic report coming to TW soon.

Sankey diagram connecting taxon name authors, a viz experiment using Claude Code vs TaxonWorks.
Early experiments playing with Claude Code X TaxonWorks. Since we have some nice conventions in the code-base it very quickly was able to turn data into a classic #D3 Sankey plot, here linking taxon name authors to their fellow authors according to the number of times they worked together.

Released 0.54.0. Changelog: github.com/SpeciesFileG....
One stop configuration for serving DwCArchives via a single fixed endpoint (get your data to #GBIF without an IPT, fileserver, etc.). Colors (see screenshot)! Interactive key guided "traditional" key creation. TaxonPage endpoints & much more.
New @vliz.be @WRMarineSpecies paper. Marine biodiversity discovery: the metrics of new species descriptions. Figure: country of institutional affiliation of first authors: Belgium in the top 10 www.frontiersin.org/journals/mar...
Screenshot of an interface intersecting interactive keys and "traditional" keys. The user is dynamically breaking down a large list of taxa into a path that leads to individual identification.
#Biodiversity is vast. Building keys for hundreds or thousands of species?
Now available in TaxonWorks- powerful new tools to create dynamic "traditional" keys from interactive keys using matrices of trait/observations/character data.

Celebrating the UCF Collection of Arthropods. Feels very good to see them use TaxonWork's ability to ingest Darwin Core in support of collections.
In the past 10 weeks UCF imported >350k collection objects, transforming single rows of data into a networks of Things to be annotated and extended.
I think we've figured out the right solution at the Evolution Meetings: Bang for your buck, a virtual meeting two weeks before the in-person is the most cost-effective way to involve remote participants.
