It wasn’t going back to the beginning of everything, either, even though the modest scale of this new building kind of made it feel that way. While he’d been busy growing, the titan who had loomed over him back then had been humbled; brought to earth by defeat and age. If this meant he was doomed to be rejected and he never signed something like this again, then so be it. He knew only too well what the alternative was. He wasn’t going to let himself be destroyed by desperation. He wasn’t going to let himself be controlled, either.

Enough. It was time to be cool and professional. Go and shake the old man’s hand and introduce the retinue of scary bastards he’d brought with him this time, because, look, he’d learned. He knew how to do this now. He wasn’t a kid any more. Or a fool. Or an idol. He was Taemin, and he knew what he was worth, and he was ready to fight for it. But then: as he realised in retrospect must be what happened when you showed up ready for a fight, there wasn’t one.
