Been avoiding studies with backgrounds lately. With my Japan trip coming up, I tried a Japanese-themed setting. Once the base colors were down it felt way less intimidating, but it’s still not as refined as I want. More studying to be done!

Fell down an art history rabbit hole and got pulled in by the story behind Sargent’s Madame X. I wanted to capture her beauty in my own way. The hands were more expressive than I expected which definitely humbled me, but I’m proud of how she turned out.

Studied darker skin tones this week. A ref from @ittts.nogaye (NOX) helped me explore tone + texture.

More specular light, less translucency—highlights were tough and I redid them a lot. Tried rendering dreads too; not quite there yet. Still refining.
