On Twitter Mehmetcan Akpınar responds: "Although Ibn Khallikān gives it as -wayh, the name apparently entered into Arabic as Sībawayhi with a final -i during Harūn's time.

Ω„Ψ§ Ψ¨Ω‚ΨΉ في Ψ§Ω„ΨΨ§Ω„ شيؑ

Does this mean "Nothing happens in that moment" or "Nothing [in the sentence] conveys the present"? Are these two the same? Different?! Ahhhhh

I have spent way too long reading and rereading explanations of the muḍāri, the so-called "imperfect" form of the verb. The more I understand, the more my confusion grows. Get me out of this!

I've never gotten this trick to work. I must be too cowardly to use real heat.

Calling Cormac McCarthy’s authorial style a β€œmistake” that AI no longer makes is so funny

I think I don't understand what you mean by "culturally literate." It's much harder to engage culture (books, art in general) if you haven't consumed other culture, all the more for books, ime.

I *think* they still matter for promotion, but I'm honestly not sure. I'll worry about that when it comes time to think about going up for full.

My institution makes them optional for students, so I usually get very few evaluations per semester.

Many do this for all kinds of no-stakes writing, I assume they would also do so for the evals.

Lunch with the FT is always the first thing I read in the FT Weekend. This week's installment is just perfect, save for the lack of discussion of the meal itself. High recommend

I never thought that the Trump govt. considered this, but the precarity of the Gulf states (access to food + water) was sure to be an issue with the war. I'd heard Dubai generally has about a ten day reserve of water. IDK if that's true, but how much DO they have? Need resources to keep it full.
