Old man trying to be as best a teacher I can be. Hailing from sunny Leicestershire, I'm interested in most things educational. Thinking about what a Democratic education system could look like. #UKEd. #UKTeaching #PrimaryTeaching

A chalkboard with the following written on it For those of you who donβt understand teaching: * I have to be in school before the lessons * I have to plan the lessons before I teach them * I have to prepare the classroom and resources for the lessons * I have to mark the lessons after I teach them *I spend my breaks organising lessons and talking to pupils & colleagues * I have meetings after the lessons * I talk to parents after the lessons *I talk to my managers after the lessons * I have training sessions after the lessons * I tidy the classroom after the lessons * I record data on what happens in the lessons *I plan support for pupils finding the lessons difficult * I help children get on with each other between the lessons * I write reports on what happens in the lessons I do not just work 9-3 40 weeks a year. Many teachers work over 50 hours a week including evenings & weekends at home. @eyesshutteacher
The LA have put up a post giving notice schools may be closed due to strike action. Iβm now explaining this to various β9-3 part time teachersβ comments.

Thanks mate! π
So, what exactly is a BrewEd? Is it a conference like researchEd?
I take it no one told Trump what happens when fanatics are demanded to give an unconditional surrender?
*sigh* lots of people going to @researchedbrum.bsky.social but not me πͺ hope everyone has a good time.

Sounds brilliant. I wish I had something to offer to help get you going.
Spoke to a former Special School head about the concept of hybrid schools. She thinks it might have legs.
Typical. Sick as a pig today.
See it as you are sharing the love, not the image.
Phew!
Hopefully, that's the look of man who knows he is about to spill the beans on the most powerful people in the world, just so he can have a low security prison cell - either that, or be 'disappeared'.
And @learnwhatyoulive.bsky.social - I meant that as no disrespect to Home Ed - very different context π€£
At home? I've never liked the idea of school going home. At the very least, it just magnifies inequities and inequalities in learning.
Join this upcoming webinar to explore the work of The Huish Centre and its collaboration with Camtree β the Cambridge Teacher Research Exchange.
This session will share steps colleagues can take to join this important work to re-professionalise practice.

I have my invite, thank you.
If education is not built from the bottom up, with capacity at its core, and context as its guide, it will fail.
It's why it's failing now. The only thing keeping education afloat is the above-and-beyond sacrifices of the staff at all levels.
That's what I'm questioning tbh.
Hmm... I'd want to do that myself before giving it out. I'd also want to double-check the areas for misconceptions. Have you found a real life example?
I have nothing but fearful dread every time I hear that a government is doing something about education. It never feels like frontline staff are ever involved or consulted. And in Education, context is everything.
L: Private Eye front cover, yesterday.
R: News headline, today.
Stay ahead of the news; buy the Eye.
I didn't repost the original due to lack of alt text so I'm glad someone added it. This is very funny.
Yep. It was always a really useful resource but I looked at the update a week or two ago and it looks phenomenal.
Also, if anyone knows Craig Barton, please ask him to come on here. The #MathsToday crowd are very active and it seems weird he isnβt here.
Some days, I could just hide in a cave. With a book. Maybe a torch and a flsk of sweet tea. But everything, and everyone, else could just do one.
The problem for me is we are never, ever going to get a full, open, honest discussion about SEND, as it had been politicised for years. Which means some people - adults and children - will miss life changing support.

I took the time to send an email to a mentor thanking him for his impact on me & he wrote back to say how much it meant to him.
I highly recommend doing this, especially for your teachers. we keep them in little folders & reread them when we feel like we canβt go on.
