That's really special! We live in Canada, so this was only the second time I'd been in my life time! (First time was when I was a kid.) We planned and paid for a family trip to Disney last August and don't think we'll be back for... a few more years now. I'd love to plan it around a launch! ๐

Oh that's so neat! We recently visited the Kennedy Space Center and saw Atlantis up close. That definitely influenced making this piece. But I would LOVE to see a launch in real life.

A small black shadowbox frame with a miniature scene of a space shuttle blasting off. Layers of organza and chiffon and fluffy white wool make up the smoke and sky behind a tiny model of a shuttle and its rocket boosters.
Held in front of ferns outdoors.
Close up and angled view of a small black shadowbox frame with a miniature scene of a space shuttle blasting off. Layers of organza and chiffon and fluffy white wool make up the smoke and sky behind a tiny model of a shuttle and its rocket boosters.
Lauren's hands demonstrate the size of the miniature shuttle constructed out of fabric, felt and craft foam. Background image is a photographic print of a galaxy from a space themed calendar.
A wee little space shuttle blasting off. These little shadowbox constructions bring me joy. โ๏ธ๐โ๏ธ
If you're in the Southern Ontario area, this and my other pieces will be available at Art on the Street, June 21st, downtown Guelph.

A small square black frame with a diorama type construction depicting the Cupola window on the International Space Station. The earth is recessed into the back of the shadow box. The materials are fabric, and the windows have mylar to look like glass.
Sitting on a shelf with LEGO in the background.
Held at an angle to show reflection of mylar "glass"

Sadly that one was the HARDEST to reproduce ๐ญ it's one that page I wasn't 100% happy with after final printing. BUT if you did buy the book I hope you're enjoying it โค๏ธ

I'm having fun making tiny diorama style pieces now. This one's a needle felted tardigrade in an imaginary rococo-esque environment.

A stitched image of earth seems to glow on a black velvet background. The moon and distant sun are also represented. The moon is to scale with the earth. The sun is a small white dot which appears to be in the distance.
Newest finished piece. Putting this one in a group show so it needed a title. I'm calling it "Comfortable Insignificance". My favourite reminder to give everyone is that we're all on one small planet floating in an unfathomably vast void. Human history is a tiny blip in the cosmos. #sciart ๐งช #space

Two embroidered cats sit on a quilted background which represents the double slit experiment. One cat is sitting upright, the other looks to be sleeping, but has a skeleton superimposed on it. The cats represent Schrodinger's experiment. The letter Q appears in the top right corner.
I was added to the science feed poster's list by @physgal.bsky.social and while I still don't understand what that means... I'm pleased. So here's my most physics related piece. Q is for quantum. #sciart ๐งช

Hello! I've decided to give this place a try at the recommendation of many excellent sci-art friends.
I make textile art, about science, in hopes of educating people through pretty pictures. Thank you for taking a look!
