Yesterday was my birthday, and I thought that Clintonβs statement was a pretty good birthday present!!
I was planning to make mac and cheese tonight - so thank you for this timely reminder!
Same! I am a D+ / C- player!
A three-panel strip by Tom Gauld showing a person in a blue striped shirt talking to a ghost holding a book. There's a small pile of books on the floor in the background. The number of books in the background increases exponentially in each panel. Panel 1: Person: I thought you'd died? Ghost: My life has ended but I cannot pass over to the spirit realm when so much remains undone. Panel 2: Person: You mean all these books you bought and never got round to reading? Ghost: It won't take long. There are fewer distractions when you're dead. Panel 3: Caption: A few months later... Person: Is it me, or are the piles getting bigger? Ghost: My library card still works! But once I've read these I'll start on the ones in the attic.
From the inimitable @tomgauld.bsky.social :
Just re-covered 2 John McPhee books so they look all pretty and someone will check them out, but I am mad that Basin and Range doesn't have a map in it! What's the point of a geology book with no maps???? #librarylife #petpeeve
And every November afterwards.
Breaking: The Supreme Court is now officially considering taking up a case overturning same-sex marriage.
This is the first time in history the court has considered rolling back this right.
As a librarian, I know lots of little bits of random things, but I DO know how to help you find the answer to your question!
I can see you are living your best life this week (and I approve).
The main function of AI is to make all text on the internet untrustworthy unless you personally know the source. We will boil the oceans and price people out of heat in winter for this.
I think S brought some of that to work (but I donβt know if thereβs any leftβ¦.)
Yes; never been to one.
The latest issue of Cooks Illustrated ended up on my desk, and there is an article about optimizing grilled cheese. This is very relevant to my interests..... YUM. (Good thing I just had lunch.)
Ah, it's raining! The heat wave is finally broken. Bliss.
I currently have raspberry and apricot jelly. I have contemplated trying PB&apricot, but haven't done it yet. I *think* it would be pretty tasty.
So how did grape jelly become the American jelly default? Interesting to ponder.
Those replies are fascinating though - all the Brits saying that they think of strawberry as the default jam! This just never occurred to me.
I do think "grape" as the default - but I don't even have grape jelly in the house! (And haven't for years.) If I made a PB&J, I would use raspberry jelly.
New library mascot.
Itβs Mary Anningβs birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.socialβs brilliant cartoon again.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I loved reading to my kid! Although there were certain titles I just never liked, or books she demanded again and again and I got tired of them....
*hugs*
This is amazing.
We have been watching Madam Secretary on Netflix (about 10 years old) and it often is quite painful. USAID! Oh noes, the Russians! Etc.
So one of the things that I think is lost on AI proponents is what I call the card catalog effect, a thing I shouldnβt call it because a lot of people probably have no experience with a card catalog.
Folks: I am NOT affiliated with the group that is using my name to support an economic boycott. Please spread this post, if you would.
It's called The Gulf of Mexico. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
My book group meets at 6:30 tonight (10 hours away). I have a 7.5-hour workday ahead of me and 128 pages to go. I think I can do this!!
We were closed yesterday, so people are happy to see us today. Also - we are Hearty New Englanders (tm), so.....
