"As library worker exposure to library values rejection, systemic harm, and compromised safety continue ... we need to revisit and to acknowledge the very real interruptions to rest practices – especially for truamatized workers and those with historically ignored identities." - tinyurl.com/2jw76hjv

One Indigenous Community's Mining Windfall Is Another’s Worry | The Tyee
As the Tahltan benefit from Red Chris and other critical metal plays, 14 Alaskan nations are pushing back.
For the Tahltan, it seems like a case study in asserting Indigenous rights and winning benefits from industries operating on their traditional lands.
But as the rush for critical metals turbocharges demand for copper, it might pose risks for Indigenous groups across the border in Alaska. #canpoli

Split-image with the text “TO BEE or NOT TO BEE.” The left side shows a vibrant wildflower meadow with a bee on a daisy, symbolising biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem. The right side shows a dry, barren landscape with dead trees and no visible wildlife, representing environmental degradation. An EU flag appears in the bottom right corner.
Today, over 20,000 bee species are buzzing for #WorldBeeDay 🐝
Bees & other pollinators keep 80% of crop and wild flowering plants alive.
Yet, 1 in 10 bee, hoverfly, and butterfly species are now at risk of extinction in the EU.

The “new” library in downtown Minneapolis (2006) was designed to eventually have a planetarium on top! There were people advocating for that even fairly recently! The science museum doesn’t have one either. So it’s good that the Bell Museum finally got one to go along with their bell collection.

A History of Racism in American Public Libraries | Book Riot
A deep dive into the history of racism in American public libraries, including the effects of Jim Crow laws and racism in libraries today.
There’s no doubt that many, many library workers care for their patrons deeply. But please don’t valorize the profession.
It’s the concept that makes it good, not the execution, which is often flawed.
