lol, I wondered but was also hopeful. Yeah, nah there’s zero fruit jobs available. He’s a moron
2 finished school and one is currently working 20 hrs a week max at mcd’s, one has 18 hrs a week at kfc, the other is unemployed in school.
Where/who? Have 3 teens who’ve been looking in te puke/paengaroa for 2years. They’ve managed to get pack house work both years that ended up with a total of 60 hrs the first year and 12 hrs the second.
It gives less credits for Maths (not required past coreq) and sciences in favor of work experience programmes and is ridiculously light on history and NZ government education. It’s very biased towards enabling school leavers. The wait for credits till Jan is also detrimental to high achieving
I guess it’s fine if you don’t want students to engage in an international stage. The grading system means qualifying for international unis is limited at best. Also, the quality of education is significantly lower than other countries. NCEA prioritizes and rewards non-academic subjects 🤦♀️

You can go all year and get 20 credits in a math course or you can do 5 days of work experience and get 22 credits… why would you take math?
The lag time between testing and results/credits leads to over or underestimating pass/fails and generally removes the benefits or consequences related to performance. There is zero reflection. It’s a fucking nightmare for neurodivergent students who have forgotten what the results even pertain to.
As an import who didn’t go through the system myself NCEA seems insane and unclear - not at all focused on mastering basic skills (math, literacy, science).
Tests are black boxes that may or may not relate to the info taught and exams are a shit show of poorly worded (again guessed at curriculum).
