Somehow initially missed this Doc Pomus box set from Omnivore when it came out last year. It’s beyond wonderful. omnivorerecordings.com/shop/you-can...

A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor: Tom Noonan (1951-2026) A personal tribute to a great actor, a great friend, and a gentle giant of a man.

"He was mesmerizing: six feet, six inches of pale, balding, spindly-limbed magnificence, hands moving as if he were plucking words from the air like his Heat character did with data. Sometimes he’d have a big beard that sat on his chest like a new species of pet." www.rogerebert.com/mzs/a-beauti...

More great mail. I first saw RAFFERTY AND THE GOLD DUST TWINS when it aired on TCM Underground back in May 2021–it instantly became an all-time favorite. Finally picked up the recently-released Warner Archive Blu-ray. Also remembered that I grabbed the novelization a while agoβ€”such a beautiful book.

David Chase’s NOT FADE AWAY was already an all-time favorite and one of the truest movies I know, but the black-and-white version (now on @criterionchannl.bsky.social) still managed to be a total revelation. Makes it all work even better. Difficult for me to articulate how much it moves me.

Here’s an interview I did with French music writer Ben Langlois about the music that’s shaped me and the music in my books. He’s included a French translation of the interview, as well as the original in English. This was a lot of fun.
