Birds will be arriving soon! This map shows peak migration dates across the US modeled using radar data. Keep in mind, the dates represent peaks, but migration usually plays out across a couple of weeks, so estimate Β± 1 week on either side of the dates on the map for max migration activity.
Can we use #acoustics to quantify nocturnal #birdmigration in Europe? We explored potential and outlined some challenges in our latest publication in @rsecjournal.bsky.social. Get it HERE: doi.org/10.1002/rse2...

These are 5 autumn migration routes travelled by the same common tern. Heβs not the only one showing such flexibility, and it pays, because in our new paper, published by @royalsocietypublishing.org, we show that route flexibility is associated with minimized headwind exposure: tinyurl.com/4dawhwzj

A male Pallid Harrier giving impeccable views as it rapidly passed the count station. The bird shows its characteristic almost black-and-white plumage with the thin black wedge at the wingtips, and stands out clearly against the dark backdrop of the Batumi bottleneck.
