This was interesting! Looking for the demarcation between 2 hues and it mostly gets increasingly less perceptible. I don’t know if certain colors were harder for me or if it wasn’t uniform in difficulty.

NY State Assemblymember Claire Valdez, candidate for NY-7 Congressional race, smiling at a forum tonight, seated behind a table with a green tablecloth. The Assemblymember, on her phone, across the platform at the Clinton - Washington Ave subway station… a group of us walked there together after the forum. She looks cool as heck, and Congressional in my opinion.

For Mahmoud Khalll, this past year has been marked by profound hardship-and by profound courage. A year ago, Mahmoud was walking home through our city after sharing an iftar with his wife Noor when he was detained by federal agents, flown to Louisiana, and then held in an ICE facility for months. In that time, he was forced to miss the birth of his first child. All of this for exercising his First Amendment rights in protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine. And yet, even in the face of that cruelty, there has also been beauty. New Yorkers raising their voices in solidarity. A city refusing to look away. Mahmoud won his freedom, and a father was finally reunited with his child. Last night, as we marked the one year anniversary of his detention, Rama and I were honored to welcome Mahmoud, Noor, and their son Deen to Gracie Mansion to break our fast together. Mahmoud is a New Yorker, and he belongs in New York City.

Assemblymember Claire Valdez, a democratic socialist who’s running for Congress, told POLITICO on Monday she was disturbed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s focus on whether Trump went through the proper channels before launching the strikes. “I think it could be a real dividing line,” Valdez said. “The emphasis on procedure and expecting the Trump administration to provide some evidence or rationale that supports this war is an abdication of our responsibility to say that we don’t want another endless war, we don’t want to be locked into another forever war that doesn’t make our lives here at home any better, that just destroys lives abroad, that siphons off so much of our taxpayer dollars.”

As I told @c-sommerfeldt.bsky.social in @politico.com this morning, it's not enough for Congressional Democrats to insist on proper procedure or demand the Trump administration explain itself, as if they aren't constantly lying.

We need unequivocal opposition to this war.
