In Japan z.B. hat JR Central ihre Messzüge ("Doctor Yellow") aus dem Verkehr genommen und durch Sensorik auf regulären Shinkansen-Zügen ersetzt. Aber bei uns sind diese Dinge durch die Trennung Infrastruktur/EVU leider deutlich komplexer…
Mit entsprechender Sensorik auf den Zügen, die die Unfallstelle zuvor passiert haben, und automatisierter Alarmmeldungen an die Infrastruktur hätte der Unfall möglicherweise verhindert werden können.
Leider ein gutes Beispiel dafür, warum meiner Meinung nach Infrastrukturdiagnostik mit kommerziellen Schienenfahrzeugen ein wichtiges Thema ist.

I love that ÖBB ended up operating these trains even though they rejected them.

As long as you don't believe that the magnets can stop a train from 160 km/h with incredible magnetic force that's fine 😄 (I've met people who did)
PZB magnets are a misnomer btw, they are actually Schwingkreise (passive inductors)
Although I believe most signalling faults are caused by the interlocking system, a PZB magnet failing is pretty rare afaik
Apparently the inaugural train stirred up so much dust in the tunnel that someone thought there is a fire and called the firefighters 🙈

The Sydney Metro is really excellent: very fast, cross-platform transfer to trains in Chatswood, great level boarding; but why is it so infrequent? 10 min headways on Friday evening, it's an automated metro, just cut the trains in half!
