Nothing like a little bedtime anxiety to make sure I'm still not getting enough sleep.

Woke up at 3am, can't get back to sleep. Whee!
When my job makes me upset, looking for a new one makes me feel better. At least I know I have hypothetical options.

Found out today that a couple of people in my department think I'm "aggressive". Did i just earn a women in STEM merit badge?
Teaching students teamwork and ethics is so important, but also emotionally draining. I'm so tired.
Can confirm, this is my answer 99% of the time.

Thanks to whomever gave the suggestion to curse in your Google searches to bypass the AI suggestions. It works (though sometimes the results are different) and it feels delightfully cathartic.
Don't confuse being a fast talker with being a deep thinker. Speaking quickly signals confidence, not complexity.
Don't mistake volume for expertise. Speaking loudly reflects conviction, not credibility.
Sometimes the best ideas come from the least assertive voice in the room.

Finding new creative ways to procrastinate against finishing my performance eval docs. Currently thinking about how to make an rss feed from emails to make maintaining a list of internship opportunities easier.
They are good at that π
Solidarity from the 4th year eval writer over here! You got this! (But also take breaks)
My linocut of Peseshet, ancient Egyptian woman physician dispensing medicine with hieroglyphs in dark red and blue spelling out her name and profession.
I am going to start the year by celebrating those scientists in my print collection whose birthdays arenβt known starting with one of the earliest recorded women in science, Peseshet. π§ͺπ‘π©πΎβπ¬ She is described in the elaborate Saqqara tomb of her son Akhethotep, royal official & overseer of priests, π§΅
βi am running into a new yearβ by Lucille Clifton i am running into a new year and the old years blow back like a wind that i catch in my hair like strong fingers like all my old promises and it will be hard to let go of what i said to myself about myself when i was sixteen and twenty-six and thirty-six even thirty-six but i am running into a new year and i beg what i love and i leave to forgive me
Lucille Clifton, always.
Word of the day from my performance review did (meaning it keeps showing up in every sentence): incorporate. "If I incorporate the word "incorporate" into this paragraph one more time, it will be permanently incorporated into my brain cells. "
Two cups of hot cocoa, one is much wider at the top and both are filled with mini marshmallows
If you use a shorter, wider mug you can have as much cocoa and 3x the marshmallows

Does that matter? No, but it makes me giggle
Currently applying one to my course evals for a performance review doc. Did I make my scores the prettiest purple? Yes. Did I make the department and university averages pink even though it's a STEM school that's 75% male? Also yes.
Shout out to Paul Tol for making and sharing some gorgeous accessible color palettes. personal.sron.nl/~pault/
I like the addition of an activity!
Thanks for sharing this! We've done dinosaurs, rockets, robots, and chickens so far! I keep meaning to share pictures but I end up ooh-ing and ahh-ing so much I forget
I love these WAY better than their plastic shell counterparts. They're so clever and more recyclable!
Thanks! I just have to keep picking away at it piece by piece
Took a break for dinner. Executive summary is almost done but is already over a page, which I don't love. Maybe fresh eyes tomorrow will help cut it down
Anyone have an alternate phrase for "disseminate"? Saying it more than once in a doc feels icky.
