This is pretty hilarious. Retaliation *against* your attack really can't be the imminent threat that justifies your attack. I think the concept of linear time pretty much settles this question without the need for additional argument.
But this kind of framing lets the movement left off the hook in a rather pernicious way, since the responsibility here ought to flow at least as much in the other direction: from a movement that aspires to universalism and inclusion toward a vulnerable and historically marginalized minority group.
It’s obviously true that legacy Jewish orgs like the ADL under Greenblatt have been disastrous for diaspora Jews, and are alienating potential allies from the fight against antisemitism w/their own set of maximalist, pro-Israel demands
in the same way that we fight for Mahmoud Khalil, inasmuch as he is the target of a fascist, authoritarian regime — but not bc he is our ally. Nobody who defends their “side’s” atrocities as inevitable or justified is the ally of a principled left.
A principled left approach means fighting on behalf of every diaspora Jew inasmuch as they are a target of antisemitism, even (and especially!) the ones w/detestable, genocidal opinions,

The framing here should be the other way around: a democratic + principled left should fight on behalf of diaspora Jews regardless of their views on Israel or Zionism.

Note that nobody's even suggesting there could be more Islamophobia in the US coming from the US acting as the private army of the Gulf states' ruling families, because the connection is obviously insane.
