What cost-of-living crisis? 14.3mpg Cadillac Escalade V is now available in the UK | Auto Express
Importer Clive Sutton is offering a range of full-size American-made SUVs to UK buyers, headed up by one of the worldβs thirstiest models
No-one is safe with the height of that bonnet! Let alone children π± πΈ
Incredibly dangerous, highly polluting and completely uneccessary in the UK. Why are we allowing these cars @heidialexander.bsky.social?

On a bus in traffic headed into central London whilst adverts of mega SUVs light up the sky, hosted by Transport for London. With bus speeds at a decade low and kids more likely to be killed by SUVs, should TfL really be enabling this @willnorman.co.uk @sebdance.bsky.social? Bleak. #carspreading

Traffic gridlock isnβt inevitable, itβs the result of policy choices - when weeknight Congestion Charging was in place, traffic fell. Cities across Europe make it easy and inviting to walk, spend and enjoy the evening, yet Londonβs night-time economy is being choked by ever bigger cars. 9/9

We need an action plan for the West End, beyond Oxford Street, including:
- Reintroducing Congestion Charging on weeknights
- More controlled parking with tariffs that discourage SUVs
- Reallocating kerbside to create more space for people and for essential use like loading bays and taxi ranks

Pedestrian Pound
The Pedestrian Pound makes the economic case for investing in better streets for walking and wheeling.
We can support the night time economy. @livingstreets.bsky.social report found boosted retail sales in Shrewsbury by 25% compared to non-pedestrianised areas. London-based studies show a 17% drop in vacancy rates compared to unimproved streets. www.livingstreets.org.uk/policy-repor...

A lack of space for people, carspreading and too much traffic also means that 70% of all people killed or seriously injured in Westminster and the City of London are people walking and cycling. This can be prevented!

Traffic in the West End is being made worse by #carspreading - the rapid growth in the size of private vehicles including supersized SUVs - which means each car now takes up more road space, slows traffic further and increases road danger.

It may be surprising to learn there are no parking controls in the West End in the evening, aka free parking π€―. Hours of control for paid for parking bays end after 6.30pm. It's no wonder our public squares turn into car parks and you can't walk down the pavements safely... 4/9

It won't be surprising to hear the Congestion Charge operated until 10pm on weeknights there was a marked drop in evening car entries but after this was removed, traffic volumes rose sharply again. Loss of revenue too - particularly sore for Londoners as tube fares increase again this spring... 3/9
