I don't think their job is to help cushion the blow from disastrous acts from the mad king. I think their job is to win elections so they can enact the policy they want. Helping the GOP war effort does not accomplish that.
But they shouldn't try to alleviate the financial stress that the American people voted for. It's bad tactics.
