Media Release: ICAN Australia Condemns Strikes on Iran and Calls on Australia to Champion International Law and Diplomacy - ICAN Australia

ICAN Australia condemns military strikes by the US and Israel on Iran. The only way to avoid nuclear catastrophe and to discourage more states from seeking their own nuclear weapons, is to uphold and vigorously defend international law and to implement the #TPNW #nuclearban.

Have you seen that book, Rob, called β€œDancing with Cats”? It’s a delight.

I cannot ever stop tearing my hair out about climate activists being labelled 'unrealistic' when the fossil fuel business bros persistently do shit like this

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro SΓ‘nchez on Iran:

β€œRemember that one can be against a hateful regime, as is the case with the Iranian regime, as is the whole of Spanish society, and at the same time be against an unjustified, dangerous military intervention outside of international law.”

You could be talking about the Australian Labor party here. It’s most disconcerting that the same sort of decisions are being made on both sides of the world.

Within the space of 7 days the Albanese Labor Govt has welcomed the head of state of a country committing genocide - and given another $30b of our public money to the Trump fascist administration through AUKUS.

Can’t believe it #auspol

Ammori: This is a monumental victory for fundamental freedoms and for Palestine
Ammori has released a statement describing the high court’s ruling as a β€œmonumental victory” and that the government proscribed Palestine Action as a terror group β€œin a Trumpian abuse of power”.

She said:

β€œThis is a monumental victory both for our fundamental freedoms here in Britain and in the struggle for freedom for the Palestinian people, striking down a decision that will forever be remembered as one of the most extreme attacks on free speech in recent British history.

β€œPalestine Action is the first civil disobedience organisation that does not advocate for violence to be proscribed by the British Government as a β€˜terrorist’ group, in a Trumpian abuse of power which would have seen this Labour Government proscribe the Suffragettes. This ban was unlawful, resulting in the unlawful arrest of nearly 3,000 people - among them priests, vicars, former magistrates and retired doctors – under terrorism laws for simply sitting in silence while holding signs reading: β€˜I oppose genocide – I support Palestine Action’.

A UK court has just ruled that the ban on the Palestine Action Group is blatantly unlawful - EXCELLENT news

Jon Kudelka, much-loved Australian political cartoonist, dies aged 53 Award-winning Tasmanian artist’s work was published by the Australian, the Saturday Paper and the Hobart Mercury

Oh my god, I somehow missed this. How awful. Vale to an absolute legend. I hope Jon knew we consider it our sacred duty to continue annoying Labor stans for as long we all live

Congratulations to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on winning a Grammy for his audiobook Meditations. At 90, His Holiness’s lifelong devotion to peace & compassion continues to inspire the world. Not just an award, but a global celebration of the β€œoneness of humanity” His Holiness has always championed.

We moved in the Senate for the Albanese government to withdraw the invitation to Israel’s President Herzog to visit Australia. He has literally signed bombs used in the genocide in Gaza. Labor, the Liberals and One Nation joined together to vote it down. That tells you everything

Trump, ICE set to be handed access to Australians' biometric data, ID documents The Albanese government is giving the Trump administration and agencies like ICE access to Australians' biometric data β€” and we're not being told anything about it.

Interesting admission from the NSW Police Commissioner - that the visit of the Israeli President was a β€œfactor” in the decision to extend protest restrictions.

Helpful for the lawyers challenging the law on implied freedom grounds, even if concerning for what it says about the executive
