I’d *like* to keep working today but it’s also the only sunny day this week. So by the rules of Oregon, I must close my laptop and go outside.

The fact that newspapers can’t find anyone to write a “daylight savings time is good actually” think piece means this thing is so universally unpopular that only a completely ineffective government wouldn’t have ended it by now.
Looking for books where you just had SO MUCH FUN reading it. I don’t necessarily mean a page turner or anything literary (though it can be).
But what reads made you think, “Gosh I am just having the best time right now.”

Today I learned here in Portland teachers are being asked to either take 3 furlough days or cut 170 full time teaching positions. My son is in a blended class of 4/5th graders because they didn’t have enough money for another teacher. Fuck off
That’s its own separate thing. I was maybe thinking of “meta fiction” but that term is also specific and not quite right.
It’s crazy to me that someone can go to a lawyer to make a will and it can still be contested and dragged out in court for years. As long as they didn’t do anything illegal, they said what they said! How do we not have a way to make this easy and clear?
lol. I swear there was an easy word for this but maybe I’ve been lying to myself.
What’s the word for a novel where a character is writing the novel you’re reading within it?
David Lynch saying ‘One day, the sadness will end. But I don’t think today’s the day.’
A copy of The Sun sits on a person’s lap. They’re sitting in a park next to a river. The sky is blue. The sun is shining.
A copy of @thesunmagazine.bsky.social to read in the sun
Got my old lady blanket coat and a rocking camp chair because it may be 40 degrees but it’s sunny and nothing will stop me from reading outside!
I have so little desire to write an outline for a book proposal that there is a non zero chance I will write the whole book instead!
Just got a healthcare bill from a random pathology provider who ONLY takes payment via check!? Not even debit or check. Just check. There is no online option in 2026.
The paint on my Prius has started just flaking off out of nowhere. Apparently there was a recall a few years ago for this issue on my specific color but I was never notified!
So now I have an expensive problem on my hands due to faulty application. I’m really stressed about the whole thing.
Is anyone else extremely stressed out by the reactions functions in group chats and other social media?

It’s almost chick season! If you have a backyard flock, there’s a few good reasons to reconsider how you add to your flock this year.
Thank you for reading! I’m so glad there are places that will give a deep weirdo like this—both the essay and me—a home.
Love the journalism at @orionmagazine.bsky.social ; it's always deep, thoughtful, provocative, and intriguing. Case in point with this piece from @tkdano.bsky.social on cattle mutilation conspiracy theories (cn, graphic descriptions).
Everyone’s seen those renderings of cows getting beamed up into UFOs. But the darker side of the events that sparked those popular images—cattle mutilations—points to a more terrestrial cause. @tkdano.bsky.social investigates.

GQ Man of the Year!
Interesting stat from the article
“Between postal delays, weather events, and the fact that these are day-old animals, it’s likely that at least tens of thousands of these baby birds will die before reaching their intended destination.”

the stone face with downcast eyes has a serenity borrowed from the moss that covers it
the side of a car covering lit by moonlight to become a terrain akin to the topography of an artic mountain range on a map
the dark fir below points to the full moon above, while stark branches frame the scene to left and right and a cauldron of cloud like white smoke funnels through the sky
who goes there upon the darkened wall, wizened by cracks and fissures, but the white painted form of once friendly ghosts now rendered more urgent as if fleeing something that can truly not be seen.

And by spring I guess I still mean winter but it was 60 degrees today so I’m confused
A woman stands with her hands on her hips. She has chest waders over a dark green sweater and looks absolutely thrilled.
I’m doing a citizen science project to count amphibian eggs this spring. We got our in person training and gear today. Why do I love waders?
So cool to get to make a difference for these creatures in my community!
To find the frog, you must dress like a frog.
A goose swims alone in the fog. A misty shadow of trees peeks out in the distance. The line between water and sky is hard to see except for the ripples on the river.
Obsessed with foggy mornings
