Here's the video of the Fiery-throated Hummingbird attempting to get dry during a heavy rain at Paraiso Quetzal Lodge in #CostaRica. They really don't like being wet, as they can't fly or nectar.

some oldies but i still love em! :D
This is my new favorite image because it perfectly encapsulates the concern trolling and crybullying from the right when you give them even a fraction of what they spew out on a consistent basis.
A bird that falls into the wader category but found inland in rocky areas. The ground is totally made up of light rocks with a piece of a grape vine stump to the left of the bird. It is facing away from the camera at 45 degrees and has the head turned to the left, showing it in profile. Having light brown mottled and striped wings/head, it is white underneath. Big eyes stand out in the head with a yellow topped bill. The legs are also yellow and long, like other mid sized waders. Taken inland in Alicante, Spain.
One of the unusual birds on my patch is this Stone-curlew.
It is nothing like the majestic Curlew and has knobbly knees and big eyes. We hear them at night when those eyes come into play. 👀 #birds
drawing people i see in the city (53/?)
the only good reason to get good at art is so you can draw the stupidest shit that pops in your head at really high quality
I’m really only just getting into it but I genuinely love birding as a hobby. The entire goal is to look at the bird. Is there a bird? There is a bird! Look at the bird! If you are very keen you can learn what to call the bird so that you can properly thank it for the joy you feel when you see it. 🪶

A small, colorful bird perched quietly on a mossy branch. It has a deep blue-green head, a bright orange chest, and a long, sharp beak.
This is a very special kingfisher: the American Pygmy Kingfisher. A tiny little bird (just 13 cm or 5 in), these are one of the most chill kingfishers to photograph, especially in mangrove swamps or wetlands. It's not uncommon to be just a few meters away from these as they hunt. #CostaRica

Did you know? The oldest Great Horned Owl on record was at least 28 years old when it was found in Ohio in 2005. Video cr: rc_photowild
I did make an exception for one of my back yard Sarinda hentzi ant spoods, who had been caught and wrapped up by a G. heptagona orb weaver and then dropped off as too troublesome a catch. I untangled her and she didn't want to leave my hand. 🥹

Tiny red and white isopod in a shell between my fingers
The little guy on Bug's hand, crawling. He's got small round eyes and looks very baby
The creature facing you and crawling onto a swirly shell.
His little flat isopod tail with tiny flippers
There were lots of larger marine isopods on the shoreline today, and then this bright little red guy 'podding around in the water 🥹
A bird flying in the sky with a blue background, wings at 180 degrees, fully open, one up one down. 1st year Audouin's Gull - dark-barred coverts & dark flight feathers, separated by the light mid-wing panel. Bill thicker at the end, black tipped and two thirds grey. Legs dark, look black. Tail black tipped with feathers white ended.
A bird flying in the sky, wings up in V formation, against the blue background. 1st winter Yellow-legged Gull - heavily hooked bill tip, all black. Legs more pinkish. Brown patterned wings, no sign of grey colouring yet. Belly and top of head mostly white. Reminiscent of juvenile great black-backed. Carpal bar more dense than GBBG when wing folded.
People say Gulls are hard to ID when juveniles. Here are two distinctly different Gulls, when you look, you can see the differences. Who knows which they are before looking at the Alt description? #SuperSeabirdSunday #TeamGull #birds

The Monarch #butterfly embarks on one of nature's most incredible journeys, migrating up to 3,000 miles from #Canada to central #Mexico. These tiny travelers, with wings of vibrant orange, navigate the vast distances using the sun and Earth’s magnetic fields, defying the odds
Portrait-oriented photo featuring a wooden post with a rusted hanger hook jutting out of it, and standing atop the post, triumphant and at least slightly indignant, is a plump little bluebird. The bluebird is a male, and we see the electric blue of his head, but the predominant part facing us is the coppery-orange and pale white front. He is standing amidst little pink-and-red tree blossoms, but I like to imagine these are instead the extracted organs of his enemies. So let's just pretend this bluebird stands vengefully astride a scattering of viscera -- gobbets of gore taken as a prize from his unnatural and invasive foes. I'm sorry I've really made this a gross photo. It's actually quite nice. Kind of a dreamy vibe to it, what with the wall of yellow forsythia blurring in the background, and here I am adding drippy bits and internal organs. I'm sorry. I'll do better next time. Probably. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig
Everything is bad but birds are good so time to reinstitute BIRD PROTOCOL where a bird is deployed to offset endless evil vibes, please enjoy, birds are good, okay bye

☹️ Pepper got returned to the shelter. When he first came in last year he was the scrungliest stray but so sweet. He looked like he was 3x his actual age. He got adopted a couple months ago and I don’t know why he was returned but he is just the nicest gentleman. www.hsccvt.org/Cats#sl_embe...

A black and white pinup of Uncle Creepy from Creepy magazine.
The splash page for "An Eye for an Eye," his first solo story for EC Comics. The Comics Code Authority spiked it so it didn't actually get published until 1971.
A parody of the Love Boat called "Lust Boat" from Mad magazine.
Today is the 93rd birthday of Angelo Torres, born April 14, 1932. The last surviving artist to do work for EC Comics, he is probably best known for his several decades with Mad magazine.
I hope everyone realizes that scrubbing historical references from web sites is no different than burning books
