I think the original intent was a tongue in cheek sort of name to describe a disparate group of games that work well in multiplayer that shouldn't be used as an actual category for games, but with how language works on a massive scale like the internet it was kind of the only outcome.
I don't think slop should be associated solely with genAI garbage, it should be used to described anything made with minimum effort and usually off the backs of others work. We've been doing that since well before genAI.
As someone who went on the Internet for the first time in the early 90’s, I fucking loved the Internet. It has given so many things in life, and afforded me so many incredible experiences.
And to see it, and technology in general where they are today is kinda soul crushing.

for reference, skipping across water/lava is only possible when you tap the jump button right as you make contact with its surface. it makes it a somewhat tricky mechanic that could come in handy if there's a long stretch of lava or water in the stage that you want to skip
