The old monochrome HP laser printers were/are good. As a rule of thumb, stay away from anything after wi-fi became standard.

See if you can find a local electronics recycler and look for a laser printer. All my printers have come from various e-waste places (usually for free) or thrift stores and I just replace them as needed. Don't pay more than $20 and make sure it works (one of the buttons will often print a test page)
