Just when we thought we were free from the cold this year.
I remember taking a phone call as a kid from a charity that was fundraising to find a cure for HIV. Years later, a different charity called and they were fundraising to help distribute the treatment. The significance of that difference didn't hit me until years later.
Incredible.
Thank you for the timeline cleanse.
Super interesting, I was wondering when we'd see something better than paxlovid on the market (in a few years if all goes well, I guess!)
This is non trivial. Sometimes I get some emails from students that seem like they could have been written via LLM.
Seconded.
Incredible. Absolutely incredible.
Honestly, saying that the student is in the top 2% of writers out of however many you have taught might be a really good thing to include.

Excellent news. Looks like applying pressure still works once in a while.
The need for persistence is very real. Hoping that your research finds a good home with thoughtful peer reviews.
That's an easy follow all!
Whenever you can, go to your friend / colleagues thesis defense. It does something good for the soul to see a group of people holding each other to a high standard and be genuinely curious about the world around us.
How do I even put "my doctoral students could not achieve their full scientific potential because they had to worry ICE would abduct them off the street while getting to lab" into a tenure impact statement?

I am very grateful for their work in my lab, and the opportunity we have to work with @falsecreekfriends.bsky.social , @hakai.org , Atelier Alpera, and @langaracollege.bsky.social
It's almost a sacred moment in a researcher's career where, for the first time, they hand off presenting their work to their mentees.
Today my students presented our proposed project to study the microbial ecology of False Creek Vancouver, and won a prize at Langara's Applied Research Day. 1/2
Brix and mortar in yaletown also has a great winter patio!
Really interested if there's a shared list; I've managed to find a couple but would love to hear about others.
