The New York City Council is considering a bill to allow the cityβs Department of Housing Preservation and Development to seize buildings from landlords who have racked up housing code violations and debt from unpaid taxes and fines and turn them over to better owners.

As always, @raskin.house.gov bringing the fire
The response when progressive policies that help millions of people are proposed...
"How will you pay for it?"
The response when the richest 1% ask for tax cuts, or banks ask for bailouts, or defense contractors ask for more contracts...
"How much do you need?"
It doesn't have to be this way.
Itβs time to reveal the billionaire donors flooding American elections with potent dark money. Iβm introducing the DISCLOSE Act with Senator Whitehouse and Rep. Pappas to make our money-drenched elections more transparent for all citizens.

We canβt clean up Washington without restoring integrity to the Supreme Court.
Thatβs why I believe we should expand the Supreme Court to 13 justices. And then, institute term limits.
Because an appointment to the Supreme Court shouldnβt mean a lifetime lack of accountability.
who made this
Why is Democratic Leadership taking money from AIPAC after all this?
The President boasts of "no tax on tips", but this expires in 2028.
He boasts of "no tax on overtime," but it is taxed, and the break expires in 2028.
He boasts of "no tax on social security," but it is taxed, and his break expires in 2028.
He also passed tax cuts for the rich. They're permanent.

"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." βJustice Louis Brandeis
Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today.
We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.
The 2026 figure of 933 is as of Feb 15, so you'd have to multiply it by eight to get the year-long number... if the infections didn't tend to rise exponentially.
I'll wager we exceed 8,000 cases in 2026 alone, with mumps and even more serious preventable causes of death and disability right behind it...
Remember, the figures are rising exponentially.
And we haven't even seen the catastrophic fallout from Florida's abolishing child vaccine mandates...

Although RFK Jr wasn't even confirmed until a month-and-a-half into 2025, measles cases shot up eightfold last year and have probably already reached a thousand in 2026
Yes Mr Trump, I'm getting extremely "tired of winning!"...

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. Itβs always a matter of will not resources.
Measles is a bellwether. Because itβs the most contagious vaccine-preventable disease, when vaccination rates drop, itβs the first to start spreading.
Now weβve got mumps rolling up.
Expect more.
This is just the beginning of RFK Jr.βs successful infectious disease reintroduction plan.
When the U.S. House passed the SAVE Act last year, historians told us it was Congressβ worst attack on voting rights ever. Well, this week the House approved an even worse one. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
Medicare for All would save $450B a year.
Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.
Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.
Itβs not about what this country can or canβt afford.
Itβs about priorities.
Not Apartheid Clyde, the worldβs richest man, posting his obsession with replacement theory every damn day in January.
This is concerning, that a rep feels they must post this. A lot in our coalition has felt the same way and worried about it, but didnβt think weβd be here publicly.
Remember: Everyone who says that athletes or artists should stay out of politics does not just fail to understand that in moments like these politics infuses every aspect of every life in our country--they are actually part of the problem. Silence is a position. Silence serves autocrats and thugs.
Marco Rubio said negotiations on ending Russiaβs war against Ukraine have narrowed the issues, but the most difficult ones remain. He said it is unclear whether Russia is serious about ending the war. The US imposed new sanctions on Russiaβs oil industry and pressed India to halt purchases. #Ukraine

Iβve watched a lot of congressional hearings over the last 40 years. This performance by Bondi is the single most unprofessional, non-responsive, reprehensible and obnoxious I have ever seen from any witness who has testified before any committee of either chamber.

Likely-historic photo by NBC News of all the Epstein victims asked to raise their hands if they've not yet been asked to meet with the DOJ as Bondi testifies in foreground
