It's the beginning of history - and an era where we'll see thorough tests of the assumptions of the AI bubble as a result of the war in Iran and the economic and social chaos to follow.

It's time to stop using the past as a guide to what happens next.

We're today releasing a Commodore 64 curiosity: Bomb Race - an earlier version of Bomb Uzal, originally due for release under the old Mirrorsoft label (before ImageWorks was born). A few visual differences already spotted, and may be more to discover.

There’s a bunch of work on “agents” which do just that - run independently and perform tasks, and not code related ones at that..

In the project I saw yesterday, there were commits into a got repo by Claude, not authored by the repo owner.

It’s also a security and privacy mess in the making…

Of course, but sadly we've seen them ignore ROBOTS.TXT files on web pages which are meant to block scraping. I'd be worried if they'd be as flagrant for this too.

It's a major ethical thing situation to adapt to, and the uncontrolled pace of it really is a concern.

As always, I'll never not be a massive fan of what Geoff Crammond managed to get the humble BBC Model B to do here - Revs is truly a groundbreaking simulation for the time, and still feels amazing to play today.

Qualifying Results from Revs on the BBC Micro for the Silverstone Circuit on Amateur (the 2nd) Difficulty.

My time here was 1:26.4 - about half a second off the pace compared to the fastest of the computer drives.

Race results from a 10 Lap race of Silverstone on BBC Micro Revs at the Amateur Difficulty Level (the 2nd).

I finished in 6th here, scoring a single point which was incredibly rewarding after an early race mistake meant I ended up at the back of the pack.

Distracted myself a bit this evening with a little Revs on the BBC Micro action.

Pretty satisfied with the qualifying (Amateur difficulty on Silverstone), and the final results too.

Had started off well, but messed up and ended up back of the pack and hard to work to get that 6th place.

Dragon’s Lair – “Dirk, who knew no fear” When Zzap! 64 interviewed Chris Butler about making Ghosts’n Goblins, the interviewer reacted strongly to the game Butler said he’d be working on next. “Space Harrier! You’re joking?! [&#8230…

Even among 1986's ambitious arcade conversions, Dragon's Lair was baffling. How did anyone look at its laserdisc-powered lushness and think "this would work perfectly on C64"?

It turns out, no one did.

New post on how it happened, and proved a success, anyway:

There's nothing more depressing than seeing a cool project, scanning the source of it ('cause it's open), and seeing "Claude" as a contributor.

Makes using than an automatic no from me these days.

Shame really, but it's my principles on AI bullshit.

I have to admit: the 9-favourite games thing is actually pretty hard for me.

Not only because of fluidity reasons, but also because I don't even know how I could box it.

8-bits? Purely modern? Indies? All-up?

Makes me wanna scream a little thinking about it! (oh no)

I can tell you the difference in audible dial-up handshakes between 1200, 2400, 14.4 kbps modems. I needed a edu email address to join Facebook after my university was admitted. I think it might be the first time I ever cracked 100 Lines in GB Tetris, the Best Tetris.

The Legend Of Zelda didn’t create a genre, but it did help define it 40 years ago The Legend Of Zelda helped introduce the then-young action RPG genre to a generation of video game fans.

My latest for @theavclubgames.bsky.social is on the 40th anniversary of original The Legend of Zelda, and its role as a streamliner of the complicated, demanding, and burgeoning action RPG. This classic did not come out of nowhere, but was to action RPGs what Dragon Quest was for turn-based ones.
