Photo of a long gallery library with ornate black and gold shelves from the nineteenth century, housing predominantly eighteenth century books.
Another memoir from my trip to the VEC in Rome last month β the beautiful Third Library.
A book in the process of being taken off the shelf β the archivistβs hand is visible. The book is one of a set which all have paper covers printed with a design that resembles small flying insects or perhaps birds in red and green ink. The paper itself is a creamy colour, and the spines visible on the other books in the set have darkened.
Beautiful paper-covered book spotted on my recent trip to the VEC in Rome. πππ
Stand by for more pics of lovely books from my trip to Rome!
1788 Spanish recipes from Manuela Gonzalez: miel rosada, buΓ±uelos de viento, pan rey, distilled cider. The Pan Rey recipe looks like a recipe for Rosca de Reyes, Three Kings Day cake.
If you have ever wondered why archival photography is 'expensive' please know that to capture 3 images has taken nearly 2 hours.
This is so true!

A storage box containing 48 small relics in individual compartments. The relics are jewel-like, with glass fronts.
Some of the recently repackaged relics in the British Jesuit Archive looking like Christmas baubles when you get them out of the attic each year.
Please add me! Thank you!

A dark brown cat asleep in the centre of a very long flagstone and tiled corridor.
Pushkin, the St Beunoβs cat finds the warmest flagstones. Everyone (including a lady in a wheelchair) negotiates round him.

I visited all three castles in the one day!

Iβve just spent the last few days helping preserve the rare books at St Beunoβs in North Wales. Tomorrow is a day off so plan to visit castles β Iβm thinking Caernarfon, Beaumaris or Conwy but doubt I can manage all 3. Which to choose?
