In this case they are different colors, however in the case of a monarch, or an anise swallowtail, they are the same colors; monarch females are indicated by a black dot, and anise swallowtails have a different tip to their abdomen

It’s a male; females are mostly all black and slightly larger

It’s an isolated area of pipevine swallowtails here in Northern California; pipevine is mainly found in the south east!

Underside of wings and caterpillars are super cool too!
