I think I would probably enjoy playing with friends who don’t expect me to be good. Playing with my family was a sure-fire way for me to get yelled at, so I noped out. But, theast time I went home, we played gin rummy and I won and I will never let them forget it.
I think my family didn’t have the patience to teach me. I’m a slow and methodical decision maker and card games often move quickly and sometimes involve the kind of fast math that I struggle to do in my head.
But I DO like Oh Hell.
I suffered as a child who wasn’t adept at cards but whose family had a weekly card night with grandparents to play whist and euchre and various other trick-taking games that I refused to learn. While my brother played, I would watch SNL and dream of one day writing Weekend Update bits.
And if I’m in Montreal, then it’s café allongé all day, baby!
If I’m at an indie coffee shop, I do a flat white. If it’s Starbucks, then the brown sugar oat cortado is decent.

I LIKE working nights, but something (perimenopause) has upset my sleep rhythms lately and I think this knocked it back into place. So yes, it’s good to know that I can request an occasional string of morning shifts if I need to recalibrate!
Recently, I filled in for a colleague who starts her day at 8am. I’ve been on nights for most of my adult life and had been having horrible insomnia, so I was anxious about the gig, but it actually helped reset my sleep schedule. My phone just told me my average sleep time has increased by 2 hours!
