Aside from the obvious pro-AI, pay-to-pub, or author rights shenanigans? I discovered an online mag recently and checked out the sub page for giggles. The formatting guidelines were unconditionally nut-nut. Take standard Shunn and dump that shit in a blender. Hoo boy.
Everything I say in German makes me sound angry π
Hmm π€ Maybe Iβll pick something by the Yoshida Brothersβ¦
Nominations for the Ursula K. LeGuin Prize are open now through March 31st. If you've read a work of, as the award calls it "imaginative fiction" that is in conversation with themes in LeGuin's work and was published in 2025, please consider nominating it/them!

Have you tried the AALA list? You canβt search by genre, so itβs not ideal. Each agent supplies a clear bullet-pointed list of interests, however.
Merleau-Pontyβs my go-to.
I just read that Claude, the GenAI, has achieved consciousness. The same post challenges the reader to say how consciousness functions.
How? Phenomenological recursion.
No matter how sophisticated, LLMs will never achieve consciousness. The input-output architecture's wrong from the jump.
Happy International Womenβs Day! π

I hear you. I write out all the major plot pointsβotherwise, theyβd rattle around in my skull like rocks in a tin.
Just finished yesterday. Fantastic read. I almost guessed the proper ending the moment [no spoilers] were mentioned! Is the Dark Forest Theory rightly part of Fermiβs Paradox, or teased out later? Again, brilliant work, Gareth.
Reading Gareth L. Powellβs new sci-fi novel, Jitterbug. Iβm halfway through. This book cooks.
FIREFLY Cast Tease a March 15 Announcement and Fans Think a Revival Might Finally Be Happening
I've never been one to pull the PhD in English card, but...
You've got an imagination that beats all get out. Hands down. Far surpassing intermediate, my friend. In terms of sci-fantasy, you're up there with Tchaikovsky's Cage of Souls. Seriously. Not a you problem.
Youβre an excellent writer who knows his stuff. Itβs shit that they did what they did, no doubt. But not a you problem.
Really? Wow. When we traded, I thought your comments were really useful.
Sheβs like a liar gone to burning hell
Snagged the last copy at my local B&N! π₯ @garethlpowell.bsky.social
The cover of JITTERBUG by Gareth L Powell features a stylised rocket silhouette at the centre of an orrery, with a space suited figure dangling in its wake
THANK YOU for helping me launch Jitterbug with all your good wishes and reposts today! Hugely appreciated!
I wish theyβd update more often. Their focus often shifts over time, so even if theyβre generally interested in a project Iβm shopping, they might be looking for something else specifically.
I canβt name one mag that I regularly read that doesnβt have a strict AI policy.
Separate books make sense to me, especially while working in an expansive universe.
'June' is also a verb meaning "to drive briskly."
So please june responsibly.
What a handsome fella!
This whole album cooks π₯ Iβve been on a Ladytron kick lately.
Yeah, the only thing worse than irradiated and shitting out your guts? Iambic pentameter. π Seriously, thoβa great podcast. Looking forward to catching up. And congrats on the BSFA nods, btw π
I've been meaning to repost this for days now...
Anyone in the #writingcommunity interested in #sci-fi? Give this podcast a listen. Thought-provoking and insightful fun!
I freely admit that I'd rather be deboned by an alien on a weirdo planet than be made to write in iambic pentameter.
Woo-hoo! If you ever need another beta reader, please give me a shout. Keep cracking. π
Coming to this late. Hope you got that work done!
