π· from our 2024 Loppet
Snow is firming up nicely this morning but drifting is going to be an issue. Thanks so much to our team for their work over the weekend. We have a great base for our Loppet on Sunday.
Morning track setting from Donald St. to Bank St. completed. β Happy Family Day!
Great to see all this snow, but the heavy amount poses some challenges to our volunteer team. Weβve rolled the trail twice today and again tonight. We think weβll be able to set classic tracks between Donald St. and Bank St. early tomorrow but we shall see what the wind does tonight.
Three people in cross country ski gear standing in front of a colorful sign made of cross country skis for the Rideau Winter Trail on a beautiful winter day.
@rideauwintertrail.bsky.social tried the new pilot section of trail in Vincent Massey park today and found the sign! The trail was great.
Excellent conditions reported on the RWT this morning.
Cleaning up everything for tomorrow. A beautiful evening out. Note the proximity to Hurdman Station - itβs so easy to access the trail by public transportation!

Lots of drifting snow last night made going a bit tricky in places but after multiple rolls, tracks were finally laid down from Donald St. to Vincent Massey Park. Here is a map of the temporary proof of concept. Let us know how you enjoy it (tags us in some photos to let us know itβs been used!).
Our shovel elves have been busy today, moving snow under bridges between Donald St. and Vincent Massey Park (even smoothing it out by side stepping it with skis, as needed!). Our team will be out setting tracks tonight and really appreciate this work by the shovel elves.
A huge thank you to our supporters, who play such an important part in the successful operation of our volunteer run trail. πππ
Hereβs Groomer Pete going under the Bank St bridge and on the way to Vincent Massey Park this morning. Whoo hooo!

The sun trying to peek out on us as we cross country ski along the Rideau River. Western loop is around 8Km.
Thanks for the @rideauwintertrail.bsky.social just across the Billings Bridge from my house. This is just the Western loop Bank to 417 including Mt. Hurdman. #ottSki
