Our #Leiden office celebrated the #holidays with a bang last week, quite literally. A band of drummers set the tone for a night of tropical drinks, chats and bingo – all set in a former swimming pool!

All packed and ready to board my flight to Japan for the upcoming Japanese Studies conference at Tohoku University organized by @eajs.eu

Sleep was in short supply last night, but with 13 hours on a plane ahead of me, I’m grateful for the chance to rest, read, and think uninterrupted.

Very much enjoyed reading this insightful introduction to modern Chinese history by Prof. Rana Mitter.

As a publisher, I’ll admit I envy the idea behind @oxunipress.bsky.social’s Very Short Introductions series. It’s deceptively simple but so well executed! Fully recommend this title.

As a Romanian living abroad, I’m often asked about the connection between Romanians and the Roma peopleβ€”a complex history I’ve struggled to explain. @madelinepotter.bsky.social's book offers a clear, thoughtful look at Romani culture and history. It’s eye-opening and deeply humanizing. Recommend!
