With the price shift in computers in the last year, $300-400 doesnβt get you as good an entry level Windows laptop as it used to either. I was talked to find my boss a decent NEW laptop last year and anything under $600 was pretty unimpressive. Refurbished is in the budget.

Iβd argue the $600 price tag makes it a βbudget MacBookβ and that puts it in the mid-range laptop category. I think the fact that Apple is chasing this price range for the first time ever is indicative of the simultaneous larger issues in tech pricing and the economy.

On RAM, I've always used pro Macs, but in 2020 I got an entry level M1 Air as a sidepiece to my Mac workstation and was shocked at what it was able to do with 8GB for everything short of video editing.
If you've never used an Apple Silicon machine, I promise you most "normal people" will be fine.

Watch the trailer. They're very clearly not marketing the Neo to existing Mac users. They're going for the HUGE demographic of iPhone owners that still use entry level PC notebooks and Chromebooks, who already don't have ample local storage and, funny you mention it, probably already have iCloud.

"Normal people" don't have TBs of music and movies on their hard drives, they're streaming it. They're not running RAIDs for backing up their massive photos and video library, they're throwing them to cloud storage. These are all concessions that the majority of people are now accustomed to.

I think you're vastly overestimating the amount of LOCAL storage the majority of "normal people" (read: non-enthusiasts) need. "Normal people" have thought of their smartphone as their primary personal computer for over a decade and have accordingly moved away from needing significant local storage.

Entry level machine has entry level specs. It's a device for people who don't need more than the power of an iPad, but want a desktop OS. Computer enthusiasts like to forget that most computer users tasks can be done with the specs of a smartphone.

I was waiting for you guys to talk about it being a Christmas movie during the episode! Despite not being "Christmas-y", the decision to have the events of the movie take place around Christmas in a hyper-consumerist dystopia feels SUPER intentional. It's a staple of my Christmas movie nights.

Additionally for retro games, 120fps support means they COULD use newer emulation visual enhancements like black frame insertion for an even more accurate CRT look, but I'm not holding out for that from this set.
Either way, the Switch 2 cartridge being a $10 premium over the Switch 1 is bullshit.

Generally, that means UI elements will scale better running the native Switch 2 version in handheld since 720p doesn't evenly scale into 1080p, but more importantly for retro games that use various screen filters to recreate the CRT look, game image and native resolution parity is important.

Both versions are $20 digitally, so it's DEFINITELY not worth $40 for Switch 2 physically, but Switch 1 titles are limited to 1080p60 docked and 720p60 handheld, whereas Switch 2 games can output 4K60 or 1080p120 docked and 1080p120 handheld.

Yes, broadly referring to them all as "Switch 2 Editions" makes them seem like they'd be of comparable value, but when you look at the differences between their last-gen and current-gen content, it's pretty obvious what the difference is.

Because they're tying expansion DLC to them and, like all DLC, that can mean different things of different value. Legends ZA is JUST the upgrade from last gen to current gen pricing, which is $10. ANCH is a small amount of DLC so it's $5. Jamboree TV and Wonder have EXTENSIVE content so they're $20.

There are also several flagship games that got Switch 2 performance upgrades for free without the "Switch 2 Edition" moniker. If they're inconsistent about anything, it's messaging on what the upgrades are, because clearly people think "Switch 2 Edition" just means "runs better on Switch 2".

I'm all for holding Nintendo accountable for their bullshit, but this isn't "$20 for upgraded graphics and minor gameplay additions", it's a whole ass DLC expansion. If you want to decry it for anything, it's that they're not making it available to Switch 1 owners to try to push users to Switch 2.

Everything online says that Shadow Generations on Switch 2 runs at 720p60 in both docked and handheld mode, but it's set to quality mode by default, so you have to switch it to performance mode.
Did you switch the game to performance mode, which targets 60fps?

Itβs a cynical clusterfuck of green screen and shoehorned fantastical elements thatβs entertaining for a fake trailer but exhausting as a short film that doesnβt seem to have that much affection for the thing itβs kind-of parodying.
Itβs exactly the kind of thing that AI βcreatorsβ would βcreateβ.

The reason publishes aren't supposed to speak on those details is because they're not an authority on the business of other businesses. ININ only knows about their specific dealings with Nintendo, hence: conjecture. "Believing what you like" about conjecture is also known as confirmation bias.
