Good morning Skylarks. A much better week so I am in the last chapters of "Grace" by A.M. Shine. Beautifully written, very atmospheric. It deals with the real horror of human emotions: Unspeakable, gut wrenching, guilt. And that it achieved. It is just a bit too "choppy". But still enjoyable.

Good afternoon Skylarks. Lots of hospital appointments this week (not me), so I am back to Horror short stories. Especially the excellent "Creature Feature" collection. Just don't have the mindframe and time to focus on a proper big novel. Next week. Maybe....

Carson McCullers planted the seed for a lifelong love for short stories. Although a full novel,.. lonely hunter,is a great read.

Good afternoon Skylarks. Currently reading "A Forest, Darkly" by AG Slatter. I think Womble recommended it last week. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good morning Skylarks. Still in bed but the weather made me do it. Currently reading "Snake Eater" by Kingfisher. Finished " Christmas and other Horrors", which was recommended here. Can also highly recommend.

Good morning Skylarks. Just started "Unnatural Death by Patricia Cornwell", courtesy of Mr. Womble who read it last week. And I thought : yeah, haven't read a Cornwell in a while. So back for a while to crime. Might even dig out old Lord Peter Wimsey.

Good morning Skylarks. Just started "The Future" by Aldermann, which was recommended here. So far enjoying it.
My previous read was a first for me. Having ploughed through nearly the whole book, I could not be bothered to read the last 2 chapters. What a waste of my time. ๐Ÿ˜’

If I go into a greengrocer & look for potatoes for mashing & staff needs to Google. I rather do it online.
Noise: haven't been to a clothes shop for a decade. I want expertise, not loud music.
I would mourn the opportunity of physical shops. But maybe they also need to change to survive.

Not that black and white. I live in a "walkable neighborhood community" full of small independent shops. And I love it and take full advantage of it. But my main shop is online. Many reasons:
Time. I don't have the privilege to shop physically between 9am and 5pm.
Lack of knowledge. 1/2

I am not bothered by blood, gore, strong language or "uncomfortable" messages. But there is also a delicious delight in gothic horror. Something uncomplicated you can read when insomnia hits you at 3am. The witching hour..

Good morning Skylarks.
I have read this week another Christmas gift, I think not yet available in the UK(?) but, fortunately for me, in the US. "The Witching Hour: Ghostly tales for the darkest nights". Highly recommend.
What are you all up to?

Good morning Skylarks and a Happy New Year. Currently reading a Christmas present, "Water Moon" by Samantha Sotto Yambao. Not something I would have chosen myself, but I am enchanted.

Good morning Skylarks. Just finished "I Who Have Never Known Men" and was pretty cheesed off. If you read it, and it is a brilliant book, do NOT read the dedication before you have read the book. It not only gives everything away, it also tells you how you should feel and interpret.

Good afternoon Skylarks. Just finished "Rental Person Who Does Nothing: A Memoir" and can really recommend it. I think this is a good book when you are in a slump. Or still mourn the end of a hefty book.

Finished it this week. Yes, a monster (or a dragon) of a book. But really good. Don't lose heart in the middle.

Sandor Marai's book "Embers" is the one I gift most in my life. Such a great writer.

Good morning Skylarks. Finished last night "Annie Bot" and found it meh. Started this morning on "Halcyon Years" which has "Altered Carbon" vibes. More lightweight but good for a dreadful, rainy Sunday.
Hope you are all well.

Disgraceful.

The perpetrators need to be held to account for this gross negligence, which cost the lives of many and damaged many more.
