Typically found at edges and in open areas within coniferous forests, Rufous Hummingbirds are also found in sub-alpine & residential areas. In damp western WA, they are found in many habitats. East of the Cascades they are limited to higher elevations with more rainfall.

Red Crossbills are finches with highly specialized, crossed bills. Male Red Crossbills are red with black wings. Females are greenish-yellow with black wings. The bill size of Red Crossbills varies considerably and correlates with distinct habitat and food preferences.

As the Seahawks head to the Super Bowl, excitement is rippling across the region. Although there is no bird officially called a Seahawk, in Seattle, the bird that comes closest is the Osprey. Osprey are fish-eating raptors found throughout the region.

The Bufflehead is Washington's smallest diving duck. Buffleheads' breeding habitat is small lakes and ponds in boreal forests with nearby stands of poplar and aspen. In the winter, they are most often found in coastal areas in shallow bays and inlets.
