Star Trek Deep Space Nine scene. A PADD is shown up close held by a pair of hands. (Kind of looks like an old palm pilot and if you're not old this will mean nothing to you) The beautiful LCARS user interface is displaying the text, "GO AWAY."

It was going on one, two in the morning, and we were shooting what I felt was an important scene for me, when he makes an attempt to be quote-unquote straight, in a suit, and at the end of it he gets emotional and locks himself in the other room. And I felt like, Iβm not getting what I wantβIβm not happy with it. Mike was happy with it. He called me the next day and said, βI know you werenβt happy with the scene last night. Believe me, we wouldnβt have gone home if I had felt we werenβt getting it.β And then he sort of became my psychiatrist and said, βYou find it difficult to be happy, donβt you? You find it difficult to enjoy things.β And I said, βWell, sometimes. Last night was about feeling too tired and not feeling I was reaching what I needed to reach for the scene.β He talked to me then about when he was making, I donβt know whether it was Virginia Woolf or The Graduate. He said, βI didnβt enjoy it for a second. I was worried about so many things.β And then he said, βYou know, this is never going to happen again quite this way. You should try to allow yourself to enjoy this more. Take a minute a day, and then add a minute the next day, and another minute. Pretty soon, youβll have hours of happiness.β
The Birdcage opened thirty years ago today, so in its honor, I want to share one of my favorite stories about Mike Nichols that didn't make it into my biography. This is from an interview I did with Nathan Lane.
One of the best Star Trek: TNG episodes analyzes this question, and let's just say you're not going to like how it is resolved.
In my dream last night it was revealed that David Attenborough was one of the world's largest tax cheats and I laughed so hard I woke up

Iβve seen enough. Not about the election. Just generally.
This bit in the From Russia With Love game made me laugh out loud. You've got a fairly grounded, low key fight based on the one in the movie, then the most video game looking fucker of all time slides into frame.
Hi Bluesky friends, Iβm ShouXin (ζ訫). I love drawing cats with simple lines.
This is my first post here, and Iβm sharing four of my classic pieces.
I hope they bring you a little joy, and I hope you enjoy them.

Macro photo of a brown stink bug in face view on a leaf, guarding a tightly-clustered bunch of eggs that are shaped and colored exactly like a full tray of dark beer with foam on top.
Finally, the bug is back with a round of the Guinness.

I love AUTHOR! AUTHOR! It's like prozac for me. Pacino does MR. MOM and then the very next year he's Tony Montana

Bark-laughed.
There's three votes for anything on the supreme court. If trump said "I'm the god-king of arrakis" he'd get three votes and a lengthy opinion about the long history and tradition of english common law with regards to the spice melange
A pot of kasha varnishkes (bow tie pasta with grains of buckwheat and caramelized onions)
I was recently gifted some very high quality schmaltz. I cannot reveal the source. This must of course meanβ¦kasha varnishkes
Tom Noonan had top-tier X-Files monster-of-the-week on his resume too. Serial killer John Lee Roche in βPaper Heartsβ (S4E10) RIP to a great one.

Always thought Duvall deserved landmark status, like a building or some great national park. His sturdiness and longevity always felt like that to me. Hell of a damn career. RIP

In regards to whatβs going on at the Berlinale film festival, here is footage of Godard & Truffaut shutting down the 1968 Cannes Film Festival in solidarity with students workers & protestors getting brutalized by police in the streets, & probably Godardβs best line about film criticism ever
This year is a very special year for horror fans, because it's the first time in eleven years that three Friday the 13ths will be taking place in a single year!
That happens to be the maximum amount of Friday the 13ths that can exist in a single year, and it won't happen again until 2037.
