Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Ireland - all have bottle return schemes.
The UK is just now getting nationwide bins for food waste and is thinking about maybe separating plastics.

Wait, this wasn't even for an electric shower? 😱
It has been obvious from the beginning that it was a US bomb that fell on the school and killed all those girls.
What is needed is an understanding of the intelligence failure that led to this. Yet it's the one thing that won't be made public for years.
A shameful, grotesque stain on America.
Almost 1/5 of all campaign contributions. Disgusting.
End Citizens United.
If you’re roughly my age, it’s wild to reflect on the optimism for the future Americans felt when Obama was elected — young Americans spontaneously took to the streets to celebrate! — and contrast with what we face today. The falloff over the past 18 years is hard to process.
When we look back at these last years, history will see this as World War III. Slow moving, often fought in proxy, but global. And America and Russia will be the named instigators.
When even the WSJ is saying this, you know it's that bad.
Genuine, but possibly silly question because I don't see it in these debates: other than the politics of needing everyone to do it together, is there anything against going 30 minutes into the middle?
Diesel is close to 2€ in central Germany. Trump sucks.
Often wondered this. There are few enough cyclists in our area, yet roadies don't greet so I've stopped trying with them. Sometimes I wonder if it's thin wheels + the state of the roads here? I'm always keeping an eye for road surface issues to avoid (our area is quite bad). Still seems rude though.
As expected
In Congress The Senate Agriculture Committee quickly voted to advance its version of crypto market structure legislation to the full Senate. The vote split along party lines, with all 12 Republicans voting in support and 11 Democrats voting against. While all committee Democrats ultimately voted against advancing the bill, pro-crypto Democrats Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) both spoke positively of crypto, with Booker gushing about “extraordinary humanity-changing breakthroughs that could give Americans a financial system that is faster, cheaper, and more inclusive”.37 No amendments from Democrats were approved, including ones that would have prohibited elected officials and their family members from profiting from crypto, that would require the CFTC to appoint at least four commissioners,e or that would prohibit bailouts of digital asset issuers.
The Fairshake PAC timed a press blitz about the nearly $200 million they’re brandishing towards members of Congress just ahead of a Senate Ag vote on crypto market structure. It passed, and amendments to address Trump’s crypto corruption or prohibit bailouts of crypto firms were shot down.
By BEN LEFEBVRE 03/05/2026 05:00 AM EST f • • • President Donald Trump's chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is telling his advisers to bring ideas to the Oval Office to lower gasoline prices in the wake of the U.S. attack on Iran, according to two energy industry executives familiar with the conversations. The White House is "looking under every rock for ideas on improving energy prices, especially gasoline prices," said one of the executives, who was granted anonymity to describe internal administration discussions.
I have an idea. Here’s my idea: We should have had this meeting last week before we started bombing Iran. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
Considering the conjunction of politics and religion in the US right now, this is interesting.
It's getting harder and harder to keep up with the lies.
Trump and Hegseth really asked "why can't we use the real toys?"
Pathetic men starting WW3 for their own selfish egos.
Doing the Lord's work
Trump in 2020: "We've spent $8 trillion in the Middle East. And we're not fixing our roads in this country. How stupid is it? We're not fixing our highways, our tunnels, our bridges, our hospitals, even."
Coinciding with changing jetstream 🙃🫠
*pulls hair out*
Watching the incompetency of the US political machine is astounding.
Love to see Community Notes cook Ann Coulter.
🍿
also noise pollution in the U.S. is almost entirely from cars and it’s literally giving people heart attacks
I wrote an article about it because it’s so absurd
An NPR investigation finds the public database of Epstein files is missing dozens of pages related to sexual abuse accusations against President Trump.
No suing for "maliciously and intentionally refusing to deliver someone's mail". Is that also true if USPS benignly refuses to deliver our ballots to us in California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado, or other states who vote that way?
Turns out the “brief period” equaled 17 whole minutes.
I'm reading a book where two girls find out the FMC's secret. One rats her out, the other doesn't. What does the evil man holding them all captive do? Kills the girl who kept the FMC's secret and rewards the one who told.
We are not (yet) to that point.
"This is not who we are" is the retort to some of the most egregious actions of this administration. But ordinary Americans are collaborating eagerly with Trump and his ilk. This is EXACTLY who we are. Accountability demands we recognize this, write it down, keep the receipts.
