Still experimenting with this Peach (Mario 1?) redraw. Redid the castle rescue scene.
Mario sprite is now optimized for 3 colors, plus transparency. Updated the HUD. Game had no item slot, but there was space. Mockup is NES accurate, but likely needs fixes.

The sprites from super Mario bros 1, and their redrawn pixel-art versions in orange, white and red. Mario, small Mario, Peach and Toad now look slightly more like their modern depictions.

Quick Mario 1 Peach Redraw. Attempted to match the shape to their later iterations. Sprite dimensions are identical, plus 2 8x8 blocks to small Mario and Peach. Would realistically only work on black backgrounds. Now to avoid making this a mockup...

Screenshot of the 1985 game Super Mario Bros. It features Mario and Bowser in one of the end-of-world encounters across the bridge over lava, with a floating platform above them and a bronze axe standing at the end of the bridge.

Pixel art, my interpretation of the scene shown in the previous screenshot. It has the same layout except Mario is in mid-jump over some fireballs and there are extra decorations in the background, such as pillars and statues. Everything is abiding to some degree to NES technical limitations, max 4 colours per tile etc.

I couldn't stop myself, so I'm just redrawing a whole SMB1 screenshot now. Trying not to go overboard with background details is T O U G H #nes #pixelart #artpost
