Japanese Americans successfully gained redress for incarceration during the Reagan administration, survivors were given $20k and a formal apology. It doesn't make up for what they lost but it was an impressive achievement by the Japanese American community.

#OTD in 1944, the Topaz camp director refutes Japanese claims that the camp has shot two incarcerees. The director confidently stated that only one incarceree, James Hatsuaki Wakasa, was shot while allegedly fleeing from a sentry. Wakasa was killed while walking his dog in April 1943.
