I quite like the simple portfolio feature on Pixelfed Social ๐งก

Sorry about that ๐
That's fair, it's not great, but is it bad I actually kinda like how uh, let's say imperfect it is? I always enjoyed having to find little workarounds to stuff back when the internet was a UI nightmare. It takes me back ๐
Just realised you can set your phone to display everything in greyscale.
Instantly much less overwhelming!
Yeah, having to have real things is the tricky bit, because I don't want to create a load of junk props just for my one-off shoot as that's the opposite of solarpunk haha. I think it might just have to be seeing what community projects exist and seeing if I can find a way to style them for a shoot.
My only thought so far that feels true to solarpunk is actually finding existing community projects (community gardens, repair cafes etc) to shoot something kinda like an ad campaign for them - a bit stylised, with some models alongside real volunteers. Let them get stuck in, and document it.
Noo! Like, I love that as a short story concept, but I'm soo tired of gloomy, conflict-heavy dystopias (the world's gloomy enough already) - I want to find a way to bring eco-anarchist/ afro-futurist/ solarpunk visions to life with photography.
It's completely different to my current vibe but I really want to find a way to incorporate solarpunk into my photography and I just have no idea where to start.
A person with an old computer monitor as a head, featuring the "its now safe to turn off your computer" message, leaning back against a metal railing high above a small British town. Orange, yellow and green hues, with a filter to make it look like VHS/slightly glitchy
Honestly, I think this is where I peaked as a photographer.

First couple of edits from my post-Adobe era. Still getting used to it, still not sure I've finished messing with these.
Made much more progress with GIMP than last time I tried though, so that's a win!

I finally took my 2004 3MP point-and-shoot camera out for a shoot!
I want to get better at pushing an eco-socialist agenda through my photography
This was also my first time using RawTherapee for editing - it was much, much easier than darktable when all you wanna do is throw a preset on a bunch of images!
A photo of morris dancers, dancing in front of a castle
Photographers, if you really want to challenge your skills, I highly recommend trying to take photos of morris dancers!
I've been following my partner's side around for a while now and still don't think I've managed 1 single photo that is well composed ๐
Update:
Darktable is a great Lightroom replacement. There's a learning curve, but I think I'm going to prefer it once I get the hang of it.
Using GIMP as a Photoshop alternative however... probably because I have used Ps for 20 years (vs. ~1yr on Lr) but I am struggling!
Patience is key.
Trying an Adobe-free photo editing workflow for the first time on my most recent shoot!
Silver digital camera with labels saying movie, 3.0 mega pixel and 1.5" TFT
Hand holding an SD card labelled 64mb
I shoot exclusively on my 2004 3MP point-and-shoot with 64mb SD card now.
This was my from my first shoot using a black mist filter. I'm still not sure how I feel about it tbh.
It instantly added that feeling of like "good photo you would see shared on Instagram photography pages" but also took away some of the uniqueness of my work.

Hi Jim, thanks for the follow- I'm still finding my way around but enjoying it here so far!
Browsing your profile may have just opened my eyes to the possibility of posting my photos while also being mouthy about politics so thanks for that ๐
Can't wait to get back out taking magical photos in forests again soon ๐ฟ

Thinking of being brave and doing a whole shoot on Polaroid sometime soon.
Thank you!
