You all know by now I'm skeptical information can make immigration popular. But my friend @landgravephd.bsky.social challenged me to find an exception, and we did: nobody knows how US legal immigration works, so spreading the word changes minds.

H-1B visa update: Florida bans faculty hires for a year The pause, which takes effect immediately, will remain in place through at least January 5, 2027.

😢 It feels increasingly unethical to train international students if more states pass legislation barring their employment.

Saw a man dramatically lift a lime scooter into the air 🛴, throw it into the creek, and make a fist pump towards me before walking away.

Thursdays man.

Yeah I felt that site got abandoned long ago. I looked at it occasionally when I was on the market and could rarely find any actual info.

Hope you are well btw. You going to MPSA/APSA this year?

But I also think active moderation is important to ensure it doesn't become a cesspool. Ideally the moderator team should represent a range of institutions/geographies.

Anyway just a musing.

In addition to the #psjminfo website www.politicalsciencejobs.org, I have mused about a polisci subreddit. Would there be interest in such a thing? And if so, are there others who would be willing to serve as moderators? I think there is value in an anonymous forum...

Could aliens in another galaxy see dinosaurs on Earth? How big would a telescope need to be to see Earth’s dinosaurs from 66 million light-years away? Think big—and then think bigger

You know what? Sure, I'll say yes. It also explains why aliens don't come here. Either they'd be afraid of the giant lizard monsters, or they're disappointed the dinos are gone.

One of my hottest takes is that I favor ideological affirmative action hires in polisci. I just think that means hiring both conservative AND Maoists political theorists, and letting them duke it out. Preferably across campus.

The Librarians | Book Policies Documentary | Independent Lens The Librarians follows librarians and citizens responding to restrictions on library content across the United States.

Finally watch The Librarians documentary on PBS. It's wonderful and sad in documenting the hate filled campaign against diversity in libraries.
