I’m leading a birds and birdsong tour at Arnos Vale Cemetery this Saturday. It’s aimed squarely at novice bird watchers, with binoculars provided. #avonbirds

@bristolbirding.bsky.social Amazed to find a pair of Siskin (m&f) on our garden feeder this morning. (Knowle) #avonbirds
Drop an album that was important to you when you were nineteen.
This was my local shop for a time in the 90s. I remember they would move the counter up to the doorway at carnival staying open throughout, doing a roaring trade.
We’ve had a male wintering in ours. It’s been feeding on the Rowan berries and using the bird bath. Heard my first singing male this morning at Arnos Vale Cemetery.
Thinks it’s a tie on dry roasted and the pound coin - 1983
A final accounting of my year list for 2025: a very average 139sp, 15 lifers - unsurprising given this is only my 4th listing year. Highlights include Red-backed Shrike at Portbury Wharf, Sooty Shearwater and Eider on Lunga and my first Cornish Choughs
They seem to show more with the colder weather. Such a pleasure to glimpse one 👍
Rollers at Penarth beach this morning…
Looking forward to this. In the meantime, this mixtape by DJ Die for the legendary CircusWarp crew covers all the bases and was a favourite, until it got nicked along with my Saab 900i

Amazing display
Great pic!
Merry Christmas, Lewis. I’ve really enjoyed your reporting this year.
Just finished my shift at Arnos Vale Cemetery, heard a Tawny Owl hooting as I was locking up for the night.
Looking forward to it
We had 20-odd land in the garden today. The charm keeps growing.
Spent half an hour observing birds visiting feeders set up at Leigh Woods by Bristol University students. A dozen or so visits by Marsh Tits during that time. #bristolbirding
A few images of fungi from an abundance seen today at Leigh Woods, Bristol
Found my first Firecrest of the autumn at Leigh Woods. Treecreeper, Nuthatch and Peregrine also. #bristolbirding

Cracking review by @JimFam.bsky.social in today’s Observer. Fish pie mix and cold custard ceviche sounds like one to swerve.

Sure, thanks!
Day spent birding Avon gorge - 2 groups of juvenile Kestrel, Peregrines showing well playfully mobbing one another, one landing right above me for a time by the reserve entrance - showed some kids, which is always the best bit. Terrible photo…
Pinged a mate and he dug this out - Swainswick Airfield near Bath, I missed that one.
That’d be Roger, one of the Bristol lot; went to a few free parties in that vehicle. I remember visiting his flat and him rinsing Papua New Guinea…
