Publishers really do readers and authors a disservice when they market books to the wrong age group or market them as the wrong genre.

Does this happen in all cases of a book breaking out? No. But I would wager that a majority of the books that do "break out" are ones with substantial marketing budgets and a strong team behind it pushing the book.

In publishing, agents get told all the time from publishers that they "don't know how to break this book out" and they aren't going to like it, but I know the answer to this perplexing issue...
