Dunno Ed, if I had to pick a party in Gorton that's "playing with fire" I think I might take a closer look at the Blood and Soil chaps micro-parsing who gets to call themselves English and flirting with Great Replacement Theory, not the nice Greens lady encouraging brown people to vote.
Thought @greenpartyhan.bsky.social showed incredible good grace in not responding with this when questioned by the BBC after coming off the platform this morning, and instead celebrating efforts to reach everyone in the constituency.
I wasn’t familiar with them before, but their website has endorsements from across the spectrum, and serious democracy organisations I do know. It’s not really surprising that family voting would be the most widespread (and the most observable) breach of election law in this country.
The way it’s being reported, and the credulity given to Reform’s response, is bananas. DV say they observed 32 cases. That’s unacceptably high. But in reality all it means is ‘0.1% of people don’t know they’re not allowed to share a polling booth with their partner.’

It’s a bad, but it would have to be exceptionally close to affect the legitimacy of the result. Not helpful timing of the announcement from Democracy Volunteers, probably.
Even if what they actually mean is that 32 people out 37,000 might have been unduly influenced. Or, probably more likely, that 0.1% of people don’t know they’re not allowed to share a polling booth with their partner.
The right certainly seem to have leapt on these family voting allegations as evidence of widespread electoral fraud, but that doesn’t mean they orchestrated it, or that the reports aren’t serious.
A disconcerting number of lefties on social media seem to be smearing independent election observers in Gorton and Denton as a Reform conspiracy.
