The RSAI (Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland) really is one of Dublin’s hidden gems, both in terms of collection and “spirit of the place”.

Apsely House (No. 1, London) could be aptly summed up with one word, ‘lush’. The picture collection is excellent and the rooms finished (largely) to a luxurious degree, with just enough wear to suggest their age.

Also enjoyed this pair of stunning portraits of the Empress Josephine and Napoleon who, aptly enough given the location, looks a little deflated.

Soldiers everywhere, in the Striped Drawing Room at Apsley House. I particularly enjoyed Wellington contemplating a bust of Napoleon (last image).

A man sitting on a big chair, his hands are folded in praying. Four other men are around him, spitting on him. This is a detail from the Speculum humanae salvationis (1471 printed in Utrecht, nowadays the Netherlands).

In a similar way to the story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, it’s like somebody is saying the quiet part out loud …

Hi Mark,

Back in the day, we barely went a day in school without passing handwritten notes to our friends in class and in the hallways. And just like hair scrunchies, handwritten notes are making a comeback—but with a hi-tech twist. Handwrytten has created a card and letter sending service that will learn your handwriting and signature. It also utilizes AI that will help you write the card, and robots that will put the pen to paper and put on the stamp, giving handwritten notes the revival that it needs.

Would you be interested in learning more about Handwrytten and trying it out for yourself?

Love this new AI "handwritten note" service that takes everything special out of sending/receiving letters in the mail.

LS Lowry believed his paintings would be worthless, interviews reveal Exclusive: Sir Ian McKellen portrays artist in BBC documentary that draws on trove of previously unheard recordings

Fours years worth of previously unheard interviews - an historian’s exhilaration!

Also beautifully touching in what they reveal.

I never noticed the mosaic during the daylight hours (probably never properly looked). I was wondering if they were a light effect tonight. What a lovely detail.

Who gets to read or hear us online is decided by algorithms. If speech were truly free, algorithms wouldn’t exist. We’d just see and hear from those we followed in the chronological order they posted things.

You can almost say or type what you want, but speech is a two way thing. If nobody can hear you say it, does it even count as speech?

“the EC means to strangle free speech by a systemic assault on US companies"

Am I in a minority by thinking that anything posted on any social media platform is more “controlled” speech than free speech?

Every post everywhere is controlled in the way it appears to others.
