Summary: Peak BBCOR same for all 3 bats but shifted to inside for Torpedos. Simple shift for Torpedo-1 but wider sweet spot for Torpedo-2. See baseball.physics.illinois.edu/ppt/Nathan-T... for my @saberseminar.bsky.social talk. This is an on-going study with additional research in progress.

She Was Deported in Error. Her Child Was Left Behind.

While the Young Center wasn't specifically involved in this case, standing up for kids in situations like the one described in this NYT article is exactly the type of work that they do. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/14/u...

Saberseminar gave a donation of $10,000 to @theyoungcenter.bsky.social using the proceeds from the 2025 event! The Young Center does incredible work protecting the rights and interests of immigrant kids and we are so proud to support them. Thanks to all the attendees for making this possible!

Spent the last week "replicating" several sabersem presentations from the last sabersem. Was pretty fun! Going to highlight each one I did here. Shoutout to @srbrown70.bsky.social for the list of slides, very helpful.

Over the weekend I gave a presentation @Saberseminar about my research on torpedo bats, based on computational modeling. Experimental results are expected soon. Non-trivial result: Width of sweet spot is potentially greater for torpedo.

It was a good one. Our best yet by fundraising--we'll hit, or at least get close to, $75k total--and a ton of great talks. Happy to see everyone, happy to see a lot of students get interviews, and excited to continue growing next year.

Zack Borowiak with a great visual of "indirect" framing runs--showing how batters tend to swing more outside the zone against good framers. This value isn't captured by traditional framing models.

This was from Gabriel Applebaum's excellent talk about batters eyes at different MLB parks. Great research and follow-up in speaking with opthalmologists and experts in visual perception.

MLB parks are easier to hit in during the night, AAA parks are easier to hit in during the day. Hypothesis is that this stems from lighting quality.

Winding up, the presenters come up with a way to recommend changes to hitters' swings and determine how valuable those changes will be. Really neat quantitative approach to player development.

Interesting (and intuitive) inverse relationship between power and contact with swings. You can have one or the other, but notably, power is overall much more valuable than contact.
